There are many causes of diarrhea and worms can be one of them. Virbantel (pyrantel pamoate/praziquantel) is effective against common worms and the effects of this medication could start to be seen within 24 hours if they are the cause of your dog’s diarrhea. I have 2 30 mg tabs given to me June 21. The envelope says exp 8/21. What is the mfg info on shelf life? Surely it is longer than 2 months, although if I give them now, they would have to be good for ten months. Thankyou?

Once the expiration date has passed there is no guarantee that the medicine will be safe and effective. The manufacturer does not provide data regarding the rate of drug degradation after the expiration date. It is not recommended to use expired medications due to potential health risks.

how long should it take to kill the worm (tapeworm)... when should I stop seeing them in the stool??
-
According to the product label re-treatment of your dog may be necessary as determined by laboratory fecal examination and/or if your dog is living where re-infections are likely to occur. Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis and prevention of re-infection. In case of re-infection with tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum), consult your veterinarian for advice on how to remove fleas from the dog and the environment. Please consult your veterinarian regarding any further questions or concerns regarding the Virbantel (pyrantel pamoate/praziquantel).

I gave my 17 pound Boston Terrier one dose on 3/22 for roundworms. She is now exhibiting the same symptoms again, although I took her to the vet and they said there were no eggs in her stool. Should I redose her??
-
Mega, Virbantel is an over-the-counter medication that is effective in treatment and control of roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms. Re-treatment may be necessary as determined by laboratory fecal examination or if you dog is in an area where reinfection is likely to occur. In this case, your veterinarian did not receive a positive test, but if symptoms continue you should follow-up with your pet's veterinary clinic. For guidance and usage on Virbantel please contact your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

could heart guard and verbantel given within a couple of days of each other cause poisoning or severe liver reaction?
-
Barbara, Virbantel and Heartgard Plus are generally safe and would not cause poisoning separately or together. Both products contain pyrantel, which has a very wide margin of safety. Heartgard also contains ivermectin which is very safe. Virbantel also contains praziquantel which is also very safe. It is always a good idea to separate treatments like these by several days or weeks if possible. Any medicine can cause idiosyncratic (rare) reactions. Ask your pet's veterinarian about other questions regarding these medications. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Do I need a prescription from my vet in order to purchase Virbantel from you??
-
Tommy, Because Virbantel is not labeled as a prescription drug, authorization is not needed to purchase Virbantel. But, it is very important to consult your pet's veterinarian for assistance in diagnosing and preventing infections of intestinal worms. For example, to prevent infection with tapeworms, fleas must to be removed from the pet and environment. Thank you, VetRxDirect
