NOT a Gel for animals
Vet rec. this to help my cat in renal failure. NOTE: This is Not a gel, but a Milky MINT liquid containing sorbitol and saccharin obviously created for human consumption. All the labeling on the bottle is directed at human consumption. My cat hates it. She runs from me since I've been trying to give it to her. Worse than a Waste of time and money, since she's skittish of me now. Unhappy cat. Unhappy owner. Do NOT recommend either this product or this site since they will not help me and refuse to correct the description of the product.

From UndisclosedComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelSo far so good with this product. My cat definitely seems to be better using it . I mix it in her wet food and she eats it no problem. -

Nope. My dog wasn't having anything to do with it
From UndisclosedComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelTried to give this to a dog via syringe. I failed. It was a runny sticky liquid, had a super strong artificial mint smell/flavor, and he was having nothing to do with it. Not the right choice for us. Also not anywhere close to a "gel"... It's milky -
Nope. My dog wasn't having anything to do with it
From Lancaster, PAComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelMy attempt to use this was a fail. My dog (100lbs of stubborn) needed quite a large dose as prescribed by his vet. He smelled it and ran, and even though I tried the "shoot it into his mouth with a syringe" method, he wasn't having any of it. It is not a gel. It is a milky white, drippy and sticky sort of liquid. Didn't work for us. In the end it wasn't all that expensive so I don't mind that we can't use it. It was worth a try before buying the more expensive powdered form. -
Working well for our Dog!
From UndisclosedComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelWe began using Aluminum Hydroxide Gel with our dog who has high phosphorus levels due to kidney disease. After our local pharmacy's vendor could not access this product any more, we found it at VetRxDirect. The price is great, shipping is fast. It has helped our dog--although he does not like the mint flavor, so we mix it with a tablespoon of canned food and he will then take it in small amounts from a syringe. Your veterinarian is the one to suggest a dosage based on your pet's lab results. -
Beware it is mint flavor-not dog friendly
From UndisclosedComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelUnfortunately the description did not note that this was mint flavor so my dog would not take it at all. He hated it. Yesterday I was told by a friend to try and pour the liquid onto bread and maybe he would take the bread which he did today. We'll see if he does again tomorrow!? Vet direct said I could return for refund which was very nice. We'll see. -
Great product
From IllinoisComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelMy dog has kidney disease. I was buying this from my vet for double the price! So glad I found this site. Just take a syringe and measure 5 ml and shoot it down his throat. No big deal. My dog kind of likes mints. He would eat the mint dog chews I got for his breath. -
I would buy this product again.
From undisclosedComments about Aluminum Hydroxide GelUsed on veterinarian request for feline dietary supplement. The cost is about 1/4 what we were paying through the veterinarian. -
I love this company!

What would be the dosage for a cat that weighs 14 lbs.?
-
The aluminum hydroxide gel is a human-labeled product and directions for use do not include animal dosing. Typical starting doses for cats and dogs is 30-100 mg per kilogram of body weight daily with meals and is adjusted by your veterinarian based on phosphate levels in the blood. It is best to discuss a starting dose with your veterinarian that would be appropriate for your cat before starting this product.

Does this come in a plain flavor other then mint??
-
Aluminum Hydroxide can be used to lower phosphate levels associated with certain kidney conditions. VetRxDirect only carries a commercially available mint flavored aluminum hydroxide gel. Phos-bind, which is aluminum hydroxide powder is also available thru VetRxDirect. It may be easier to administer than the human labeled aluminum hydroxide gel. Please contact your veterinarian to determine if a powder version of aluminum hydroxide would be recommended for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I have the powder version for my cat that has to be given with a meal. Does this gel also have to be given with food ?????
-
The powder dosage form, brand name Phos-bind, allows you to easily incorporate the drug with food for administration. The powder form also has the advantage of being tasteless. The liquid dosage form can be given via syringe or mixed with food though the liquid has a mint flavor. Thank you, VetRxDirect

If a cat is getting a 40mg. tablet twice a day, how do you do the dosing to the equivelent and how long should a bottle last??
-
The concentration of this product is 320mg/5ml. For your cat you would give 0.625 ml twice daily. The bottle contains 473 ml so this would last you about 1 year or until the expiration date listed on the bottle. Thank you, VetRxDirect
