Good meds!
From undisclosedComments about AminAvastMy 15-yr-old cat has some early kidney issues, and hates all the specialty kidney-friendly foods my vet recommends, so vet recommended this medication, along with a water fountain, to encourage hydrating, and the combo seems to be working. So far, so good! Happy with the meds and happy the cat is keeping further problems at bay for now, anyway. -

regular purchaser of this product
From undisclosedComments about AminAvastwe have a very senior cat who has been taking AminAvast for two years. I seems to be a significant help to her kidney health. She has no problem taking it mixed with her food. -
Maybe too strong?
From undisclosedComments about AminAvastMy vet put my cat on this for early stages of kidney disease, common in cats. As far as I can tell, what it does is make them drink copious amounts of water as a way of giving fluids to themselves, thus cleansing their kidneys. My vet prescribed two capsules a day. She's fussy, but she eats it sprinkled in her food. What I found at night though, is that she was getting up every hour on the hour to drink and drink and drink. (Her water is in the bedroom with us, so I could hear her lap water.) I just felt this was cruel and crazy, so I stopped giving her the evening pill. It's potent medicine, and having her get up so much in the night seemed worse than the kidney failure. -
Good for my cats

Worked for my cats
From VirginiaComments about AminAvastWhile Aminavast is not a cure, it has helped two of my cats diagnosed with CRF. Frankie lived for 3 1/2 years after diagnosis and I credit this supplement. He stopped vomiting and actually gained weight back within three weeks of taking this twice a day (I mixed it in his canned food and luckily he was a good eater). I've had the same results with Mamie who was diagnosed last summer. I don't think this would be a viable treatment for a cat who is a picky eater, though, because it's only effective if it's ingested twice daily. It's a powder that comes in a capsule and easily mixes with canned food. Both Frankie and Mamie were also diagnosed before the kidney failure was past the point of no return, so the earlier the diagnosis, the better Aminavast will hold off the inevitable. They also both got saline infusions weekly. There's no question Aminavast improved their quality of life. -
20 yr old cat on AminAvast
From McKinney, TexasComments about AminAvastMy 20 yr old cat was diagnosed with kidney disease six yrs ago. And I feel if not for the AminAvast which he takes daily, he would not be alive today. The vet says he is doing amazingly well, & in fact is surprised for his age just how well he is doing. I would highly recommend this product. -
AminAvast is Great
From Gardena, CAComments about AminAvastI have used AminAvast twice a day for almost 4 years to help control my cat's kidneys. He had renal failure, his levels were so high. I had blood work done in November and his levels were finally in the normal level. I will continue to use this to try and keep them there. It works. -
Helps

One of the ingredients in AminAvast is Maltodextrin which is a sugar. How does it effect the cat's blood sugar levels? Is there enough of it in a capsule to raise it??

According to the manufacturer, maltodextrin has been studied in 2 feline studies, 1 canine study, and 2 human studies with no evidence of an increase in blood sugar. Additionally, the manufacturer states that their formula has been used since 2009 without any reports of increase in blood sugar. Amnivast My cat has diabetes and his blood glucose has settled to a reasonable number. I gave him amnivast this morning 1/2 capsule mixed in his food. His his blood glucose was a lot higher tonight. Could this be caused by amnivast? Also, he ate the wet food and 1/2 capsule mixed in his food this morning. Tonight the amnivast sprinkles have been mixed in his food. He's not as hungry. In addition, this evening he is drinking more between bites of food. Is this to be expected??

The manufacturer stated that this product may be given to diabetic cats. but it is recommended that you consult with your veterinarian first. I have a 9lb cat in renal failure who has been on Aminavast for over a year. I have recently been having difficulties getting her to take the medication. She has always been a picky eater so sprinkling on food will not work. She no longer will take pill pockets. I have been opening her mouth and placing pill in the back of mouth. Question Can I give her both daily pills at the same time??
-
The manufacturer recommends giving this product twice daily. They suggest for finicky cats, or those whose appetite is diminished, take a small syringe (about 3ml) and fill it with 1.5 ml of water. Dispense the water into a small cup, mix with the contents of the AminAvast™ capsule, then draw the solution back into the syringe, and then squirt the contents of the syringe into the cat's mouth.
