From Denver, ColoradoComments about C.E.T. Enzymatic ToothpasteWe have a 7 1/2 year old Golden Retriever who has had her teeth brushed using this toothpaste almost every day of her life. She just had her annual checkup and we were told that because of this, she still does not need any dental work and may not for several more years.

The vanilla mint flavor contains methyl salicylate. Isn't that toxic to cats? It can cause both digestive & neurological issues, so why have that in a toothpaste meant for cats? Why not just vanilla??

The vanilla mint flavor contains methyl salicylate. Isn't that toxic to cats? It can cause both digestive & neurological issues, so why have that in a toothpaste meant for cats? Why not just vanilla? Methyl salicylate, commonly known as oil of wintergreen, is a commonly added flavor agent in mint-flavored products. According to Virbac, the manufacturer of C.E.T. Enzymatic Toothpaste, a proprietary blend is used to create their product, and there is <1% of methyl salicylate contained in their formula. Virbac’s website also indicates that each flavor of toothpaste is able to be safely swallowed in small amounts. Please consult your veterinarian regarding any further questions or concerns regarding this medication in your cat.
