From UndisclosedComments about CaniQuell (clomipramine) 80mg, 30 TabletsThis was a last resort medication experiment for my share pei's separation anxiety and it worked! Combined with Fluoxetine, he's stopped tearing apart the house and shaking uncontrollably every time we leave. Now that he's more relaxed, we are too!-

It helps behavior but gave my dog digestive problems
From UndisclosedComments about CaniQuell (clomipramine) 80mg, 30 TabletsOur specialist prescribed this medication for our new rescue who has been in the shelter multiple times in less than two years as a stray/abandoned dog. She has terrible separation anxiety/stress and is having a hard time even after several months with us and professional training. The medication itself works on the behavioral side. She was calmer and more balanced. Unfortunately, she had terrible diarrhea while on this med. We took her off it entirely while her tummy healed and started her on a lower dose. After two weeks we upped the dose back to the original and her diarrhea returned within two days. The vet says this is an unusual side effect and not commonly experienced. But ultimately we had to try a different medication for her, which is a shame as her behavior did improve while on this. This medication works, just not for us. Discuss possible side effects with your vet. Vet Rx Direct did have better pricing than others. Wish we could use this. I wish everyone else luck as someone has to care for these broken-hearted dogs.-

My schnauzer weighs 5.5 pounds and has been on CaniQuell 5mg for one month. She's so lethargic I want to break the pill in half and try a half pill per day. Is this a possibility??

CaniQuell is a tricyclic antidepressant commonly used to treat behavior problems or anxiety in dogs. Drowsiness and lethargy are common side effects. You may try adjusting the time you give CaniQuell; giving the dose at bedtime may help to decrease daytime drowsiness. Abruptly stopping or decreasing the dose could potentially cause symptoms of withdrawal in your dog so it is recommended to consult with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can titrate the dose according to your dog’s condition if warranted.

My pet's behaviorist prescribed Clomicalm, but now my regular vet is selling me CaniQuell. What is the difference between Clomicalm and CaniQuell??
-
Clomicalm and CaniQuell are considered by the FDA as equivalent to each other with Clomicalm being the pioneer or brand name drug while CaniQuell is known as a generic equivalent. Both are prescription medications for dogs that contain the same active ingredient clomipramine hydrochloride. Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant that affects certain chemical processes in the brain, including serotonin. This medication is commonly prescribed to treat separation anxiety in dogs and may be used to treat other behavioral disorders. Please consult with your veterinarian with any further questions or concerns regarding this medication and your dog.
