Significantly helped my senior Golden Retriever
I adopted my Golden Retriever, Alli, at the age of 11 from a rescue and she is now a few weeks shy of 16. When she first came into rescue she was pretty grouchy and apt to snap unexpectedly if touched in the wrong place or the wrong way. The rescue's vet diagnosed her with arthritis and I believe her grouchiness was very much related to pain from the arthritis. She was put on Putney carprofen right after her vet exam and has been on this medication continuously ever since. It has made a huge difference in her mobility and overall quality of life. She has never had any side effects from taking the medication and has mellowed significantly over the four years that I've been blessed to have her in my life. Ordering from Vet Rx Direct has been a very smooth and easy process and shipment is always very prompt.

I will not buy this product again
Tried Rimadyl and it was great but expensive. Tried Putney Carprofen tablets and they worked a little, then tried chewable and they did not work at all. Could see dramatic decline in overall well-being. Went back to using Rimadyl and both our Irish Terriers improved dramatically. One Irish is 15, the other 8.

Q & A

My dog has been taking carpaquin 100 mg tablets and they are out of stock. Would this be the same thing??
-
Both of these medications contain carprofen. The Putney carprofen caplets are generic the equivalent to brand name carprofen products like Carpaquin, with the only difference being the manufacturer.

can this pill be crushed?
-
This medication can be crushed but it is important that your pet receives the full dose they have been prescribed. If your pet has difficulty taking this medication whole, there are other formulations such as chewables available as well. Your veterinarian will be able to assist you in selecting the most appropriate product for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My dog takes potassium bromide for epilepsy and pimobendan for his heart Can he take carprofen with these 2 other medications??
-
Carprofen taken along with potassium bromide can increase the chances of gastrointestinal adverse effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and decreased appetite. Pimobendan and carprofen do not interact. Talk to your veterinarian about the addition of carprofen to potassium bromide. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I have a 9 year old Shih Tzu. I think her joints are beginning to hurt her. I would like to find a good supplement for her to take to help her feel a bit better.?
-
Sharon122, It's best to talk with your pet's veterinarian about which medications and/or supplements are best for your pet. You can find general information about joint disease, bone and joint supplements and arthritis medications by reading about the topic on our blog: http://www.vetrxdirect.com/blog/category/bone-and-joint-pet-health/ Thank you

is the generic caplet equivalent to the chewable rimadyl??
-
No, the caplet is like a tablet and should be swallowed whole, where as the chewable tablets can be chewed. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is the generic version of Rimadyl, liver flavored also??

No

Does this manufacture offer this product in chewable form?
-
The only chewable carprofen available is the name brand Rimadyl. All other carprofen currently comes in a caplet form. The manufacturers would determine if a particular brand of caplet could be chewed or if that could reduce the effectiveness, as some tablet/caplet formulations should not be chewed or crushed, and should be swallowed whole. DOES MY VET WRITE A PRESCRIPTION BEFORE I BUY IT. HE JUST THE SAME 75MG BOTTLE FOR 65 BUCS. GREAT STUFF!?
-
Carprofen is a prescription medication, however, we can accept the veterinarian's prescription in a couple of different ways. Once an order is placed (we recommend doing this through the website) we can send a fax over to the veterinary clinic you list, and they can fax back the the approval. With most clinics, this is the fastest method of obtaining prescription approval. Some veterinarians prefer to issue written prescriptions, if that is the case, you will need to mail in the prescription once you have placed your order, with your order number on the outside of the envelope (this ensures the fastest service once the prescription is received). We can only accept faxes directly from clinics, if the veterinarian gives you a written prescription, it does have to be mailed to us. Once we receive the prescription, we will be able to process and ship your order by whichever shipping method you have selected. Thank you, VetRxDirect
