Q & A

is this good for a dog that is scratching and biting himself??
-
Mike, You should contact your veterinarian for a diagnosis on why your dog is scratching and biting himself. Cephalexin is an antibiotic that will be useful for treating bacterial-related infections susceptible to cephalexin, including skin infections. Conditions such as dry skin or allergies may be reasons for the excessive itching and would require different courses of treatment. Please follow up with your veterinarian to discuss symptoms and evaluate treatment course. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I accidently gave my 44 lb basset hound 1000 mg of cephalexin and not 500 within 2 hours of each other, will she die??
-
Magin, Acute oral overdoses of cephalexin are unlikely to cause significant problems other than GI distress, but other effects are possible. Depending on the type of infection, doses can be up to 60 mg/kg. For a 44 pound dog the maximum dose would be as high as 1,200 mg at one time. If you do see your pet acting differently or experiencing side effects, contact your pet's veterinarian immediately. Thank you, VetRxDirect
