Very effective.
Have had issues with my German Shephards ears since he was very young. Have tried everything. My dog doesn't like anyone or anything to touch his ears. All the other daily treatments were impossible as it is a wrestling match with this 120lb dog every day. I took my dog to the vet one way in regards to his ears. I was there to tell the vet it was time to do the procedure we did a few years earlier. Basically, anesthetize him and have the vet clean his ears out and then put the same stuff in he did last time. He told me we don't have to do that any more. We got 4 people in the room, we got the dog held down and we got the Claro in both ears. The results were amazing. Highly recommend.

Horrible experience for my dog and me
Our vet applied this to our terrier mix, Cooper, resulting in 30 days of painful whining and oozing ears. It created a sticky discharge which required delicate cleaning of the ear flap EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH. The waxy discharge was nearly impossible to remove from his fur. It created extreme discomfort and he was constantly trying to shake and claw this junk out of his ear. What a nightmare!

Normal dog now has trouble eating, drinking, and walking.
From Moscow IdahoComments about Claro Otic SolutionMy vet suggested this product for my dog's waxy ears. Afterward, her tongue stopped working correctly, making it difficult for her to eat and drink. She also become ataxic, having difficulty standing or walking. It has basically turned her into an invalid and robbed her of quality of life. I have to feed her by hand, and have been hydrating her with saline from the vet given at home sub-q. We had the vet try to flush Claro from her ears, as best as could be done. One week after application, Lucy is walking again, but wobbly. I wish so much we had never used this. -
My dog now appears to be deaf
From Punta Gorda FloridaComments about Claro Otic SolutionI am so sad that I didn't try some type of a home remedy to clear up the yeast in my little dogs ears. He now appears to be deaf and will never hear "Good Boy" or our voices again. It breaks my heart I let this happen to my beloved pet. -
Claro
From Ontario canadaComments about Claro Otic SolutionVet treated my dog with claro ear medication in November. He stopped eating after 2 days. Had vet do full bloodwork and stool sample after week 2 and all good. I was literally outs small amounts of tin food in his mouth and holding it closed. Vet put him on stomach meds and well into week 3 he finally ate small bits of chicken . He is a small shizu Maltese mix and list 1.5 pounds. It wasn't until 32 days after he was given claro that he finally ate a meal. Never again will any of my dogs use this medication. -

Can you bath Your dog the day after the treatment ??
-
Currently, there is no data available on bathing after Claro Otic Solution administration. The manufacturer recommends bathing the dog below the neck only after administration using caution not to allow water into the ears. Additionally, it is not recommended to allow the dog to swim 30 days following administration.

Dog likes to play hard and romp with other dogs - they pull on each other's ears and cheeks- will this dislodge the medicine? Can she continue to play as 'normal' or should her activity be contained??
-
The manufacturer’s package label does not specify if this activity would make the medication less effective. Please consult with your veterinarian if normal activity level would make the medication less effective.

Vet says they want to insert into ear and leave it in for 2 wks, what is this insert??

Claro otic drops are ear drops that come packaged as single doses. Each small tube is one dose, and the entire quantity and is placed into the dog's ear. The medication then lasts around 30 days, targeting and killing bacteria and yeast in the ear.

Although I saw there were no clinically relevant instances of an adverse effect on hearing, were there ANY cases where hearing loss occurred following multiples dosages? My dog has been treated 3x with Claro in the last 6 months and I am trying to figure out if her sudden deafness is due to the Claro or because the vet tech broke off the ear squab in her ear (asking because not sure if the squab breaking off could've caused damage plus it seems to be both her ears having the problem).?

The integrity of the tympanic membrane should be confirmed before administering the product. Reevaluate the dog if hearing loss or signs of vestibular dysfunction are observed during treatment. In the study that allowed the Claro Otic solution to be FDA approved, one dog had thickening of the tympanic membrane and one dog had an aural hematoma. Nothing was reported in terms of hearing loss. It is also important to note that these adverse effects were not clinically relevant. It is recommended to contact your veterinarian with any additional questions or concerns.

how long until the dog is no longer in pain after application??
-
The dog's pain is likely due to the inflammation from the yeast and bacteria. The pain should begin to subside after the initial application. Once the drugs begin to rid the dog's ear of the infection, the pain should begin to subside. Additionally, the steroid in the drug preparation should start working to decrease inflammation after initial application. Please contact your dog's veterinarian regarding the use of this medication in your dog.

what are the side effects of this solution??
-
Claro Otic contains florfenicol as an antibiotic, terbinafine as an antifungal, and mometasone as a steroid. According to the manufacturer there are no reported adverse effects to this medication. But warns that it should not be used in dogs with ruptured or damaged ear drums, or dogs with impaired liver function. Because this contains a steroid, dogs should receive regular check ups and bloodwork when being treated.
