Denamarin is a staple for our Timmy
Our Sheltie has been on Denamarin for over 2 years due to high liver enzymes and a recommendation for gall bladder removal due to sludge and a forming mucocele. We elected not to do the surgery as he was 10 1/2, and try to treat with Denamarin and very low fat food, as well as Ursodiol for the sludge and homeopathic remedies. I cannot say his numbers are better. They are actually worse and we know his liver may never be completely normal. But outside of occasional bouts of diarrhea, he has not been clinical and living a fairly normal life for a now almost 13 year old blessing. Yes, we have had to stay on top of things and spend money to do it, but there was no other choice. A precious part of our family. Can't say for sure how much Denamarin played in this, but we have given it to him faithfully and with recommendations and reviews, we will continue this supplement.
Most Liked Negative Review
Our beagle hates the taste of these.
I am so bummed but our dog spits this right out. In order to be able to use them up I'm resorting to dividing them in quarters and putting cheese around them. Our dog won't even take this in peanut butter. Thankfully for now she will take the regular Denamarin still with peanut butter. It is just more of a hassle so I was hoping the chewable a would have worked.

Denamarin is essential to the well-being of Mitzi
From UndisclosedComments about Denamarin Chewable Tablets Large Dogs Over 35lbs, 30ct BoxMy 13+ yr old female Rottweiler, Mitzi, has a mass on her Bladder. This medication was perscribed by her Vet back in March. She is still doing well 9 months after diagnosis. Denamarin is difficult to get as supplies are limited and stores are frequently out of the dose for her size. I was relieved to find that Vet RxDirect had it in stock and shipped quickly.-

Q & A

I have both Denamarin chewable and tablet form and our little dog just WILL NOT take them and we have tried everything. She doesn't have much problems with other pills but this one is a no-go. Is there another comparable product or maybe one in a tincture form? Any suggestions or tips??
-
There are other products available for liver protection in dogs. Please consult your pet's veterinarian regarding a different product for your dog.

I have found that if you cut the pill in four and coat each piece with a bit of peanut butter you dog will take it

When are you going to have more Denamarin in stock for cats??

Unfortunately, it is on a manufacturer back order right now so we are not sure when we will be able to get more in stock. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Thank you for that answer. Are the chewable tabs coated in flavoring? My dog is on a hypoallergenic diet and flavoring is contraindicated. Thank you!?
-
Per the manufacturer, there is artificial roast beef flavoring in the chewable tablets; therefore they suggest using the original enteric-coated Denamarin tablets instead of the chewable tablets if hypoallergenic diet is a concern. It would also be important to discuss any new supplements or dietary concerns with your pet’s veterinarian as well. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My westie is on Denamarin for med. dogs (1/day). What is the difference between this and the Denosyl 225mg I also find available??
-
Denamarin and Denosyl are both supplements available for liver support in cats and dogs. Denamarin contains the following active ingredients: S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and silybin A and B. Denosyl contains SAMe only. S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a molecule naturally made in the body, which helps in brain, liver, and other tissue function. Supplemental SAMe is thought to increase liver cell function in animals with decreased liver function. Silybin A and B, are extracts of silymarin (commonly known as milk thistle). Milk thistle is thought to improve liver function by acting as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, protecting the liver cells from toxins. Both Denamarin and Denosyl are available in different doses depending on your pet’s weight. If you are considering switching or starting any new supplements, it would be important to speak with your pet’s veterinarian in order to select the most appropriate supplement and dose. Thank you, VetRxDirect
