Stupid shaped pill
In 2 weeks we have worn through a pill cutter because of the super thick hard coating on the pills. They are also round not flat so portioning them is a nightmare.
If your pet needs a partial dose do not order these, get the generic and save yourself the headaches. These pills are really poorly designed, wish I could exchange them

Felimazole is saving my cat
From UndisclosedComments about Felimazole (methimazole) 2.5mg, 100 Coated TabletsA cat wondered onto our porch on an extremely hot day in Arizona. He was in pretty bad shape, but we took him to the vet. We have nursed him back to health! He does require a few medication and Felimazole is one of them and is very important for his continued health. VetRxDirect made ordering and delivering easy and it's much appreciated.-

AIDS our Boy with his Hyperthyroidism
From UndisclosedComments about Felimazole (methimazole) 2.5mg, 100 Coated TabletsHave been using this product for approximately 3 years now for Hypothyroidism and seems to work well at controlling his condition. Now that he is older we have to melt his pill in warm water and mix into ball with his Churu sticks and that does the trick.-

If my other cat eats this medicine that doesn't need it will it affect her Health??
-
Methimazole reduces the amount of thyroid hormone in cats with hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid gland produces too much hormone. For cats without this disease, ingesting this medication could significantly lower thyroid hormone levels and have potentially harmful side effects. Accidental ingestion of this medication by the other cat should be prevented and reported to your veterinarian.

Does this medication come in a chewable tablet. That is what my vet has been prescribing? If so, what is the cost? I get the chewable from my vet, but it is very expensive.?
-
Unfortunately, we do not have a chewable tablet. We do compound the Methimazole in a suspension or a transdermal gel if either of those would be something that you and your vet would be willing to try. Thank you, VetRxDirect

These pills are one of the few pills that cats take well. They are small and coated.

My vet gave me this prescription for my car about 1mth ago for hyperthyroidism. She would not eat it except if I crush it in her food and then she sometimes does not eat all of it. So I can't be sure if she is getting the proper amount. Is there another version of this medicine that would be easier to administer.?. My vet said no.?
-
There is not another form of Felimazole however we do compound the active ingredient Methimazole into transdermal gel that would be applied to the ear or into a suspension. Please consult with your veterinarian to see if one of these options would work for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I have two cats that share the same litter box. If one cat is on felimazole, how would this affect the other cat. I know this drug is toxic to humans.?
-
Felimazole is primarily excreted from the urine of cats being treated for hyperthyroidism. The manufacturer reports that if the untreated cat is not eating the litter, any exposure to the untreated cat is likely to be minimal. The trapping of the urine in the litter, the small area of the feet and the fur on the cat make it difficult for the untreated cat to absorb the medication from the litter. This exposure can be further minimized by using clumping litter and keeping the litter box clean by scooping it out daily and changing the litter monthly. People who are cleaning the litter box should wear gloves to minimize exposure. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Currently my female cat takes 5mg Methemazole chewable 1/2 2x daily; individuallly blister packed. i like to order tabs should I order 2.5mg or 5mg and cut the pill in half??? Please advise. ?
-
Felimazole is a veterinary approved, non-chewable, coated tablet containing methimazole. The manufacturer warns not to crush or break the tablets and to wash hands with soap and water after administration to avoid exposure to drug. They also recommend to wear gloves to handle moistened or broken tablets. Splitting the coated tablets will expose the owner to the thyroid hormone reducing effects of the drug. Since methimazole is potentially a lifetime medication for cats suffering from hyperthyroidism, owners need to be aware that repeated handling of split, broken or moistened Felimazole tablets will increase the risk of decreased thyroid levels. If your cat’s dose is 2.5mg, we would recommend to order the Felimazole 2.5mg tablets.

would this med make my kitty throw up allot ??
-
Laurie, Adverse events attributed to methimazole commonly occur within the first few months of therapy and include vomiting, lack of appetite, and depression/lethargy as seen most often. Gastrointestinal effects occur in about 10% of cats treated with methimazole. If vomiting continues to be a problem, speak with your veterinarian on possible adjustments for your cat to better tolerate methimazole. Thank you, VetRxDirect
