Gentacalm includes isopropyl alcohol and stings when applied
From Portland, OregonComments about Gentacalm Topical SprayI was surprised at my puppy's reaction when I applied the gentacalm spray. He cried out and jumped up and had a frenetic run. Then he tried to rub off the medication from his stomach. The spray contains isopropyl alcohol which I think must sting and he is now terrified when he sees the spray bottle. When he calmed down the spray did help the irritated skin, I just can't use it without scaring my puppy. -
Would buy it again.

Q & A
-
Can anything be done to decrease the stinging my dog feels.?
-
Gentacalm is a combination product containing the active ingredients gentamicin sulfate and betamethasone valerate. It is intended to treat infected superficial lesions in dogs. Gentacalm contains isopropyl alcohol which is likely causing the stinging sensation, especially if it’s being applied to raw, irritated skin. As the area begins to heal and redness/irritation begins to ease, the stinging when applying Gentacalm should also subside. Giving your dog a treat or distracting them may help with reducing any discomfort from applying Gentacalm topical spray. Please consult your veterinarian regarding any further questions or concerns regarding this medication in your dog.
