Great Bargain
Because our cat Belle has a chronic condition for several years now, she has to take this with every meal. Buying directly from her vet was just too expensive, as were other online sites. Also, the employees who package and ship it are always great about putting in the treats for a cat and not a dog, as another site was always doing.

Works, but a sticky mess
This product is a stool softener that treats constipation. My cat with mega colon is on it. It seems to work well, but is sticky and messy. I use it with an oral syringe and I have to decant it into a smaller vessel in order to draw up a dose. If you get it on the pet's fur you have to wipe it up with a moist towel immediately or it causes mats. Also, my cat is a diabetic and was in remission (off insulin and diet controlled) when I started her on it, but her blood sugar started to spike soon after and she has been back on insulin. Product information claims it uses a sugar molecule too large to be absorbed from the intestines, but I don't believe that.

No problems here 👍
From UndisclosedComments about Lactulose Solution, 10g/15mL 8oz BottleThis is a much better deal than buying it from the local vet. My 16 yo CKD cat was having bad constipation problems and this was prescribed for her. She is doing well with it and doesn't mind it mixed in with her food. -

Q & A
-
Do I.need a prescription??
-
Yes, this medication does require a prescription. Thank you, VetRxDirect
Community Answer

-
How long does it usually take for the lactulose to take effect on a cat??
-
Lactulose should start to work as a laxative within 24-48 hours. However, lactulose alone may not be enough to overcome megacolon or severe constipation or impaction of the colon. The cat may also need to be on a GI motility stimulant drug such as cisapride along with lactulose. A rectal enema, performed by the veterinarian, may also be required for impacted feces. Follow up with your veterinarian shortly after starting lactulose. Be sure to keep a record of stool frequency and consistency of your cats’ stool after starting lactulose. The dosage and frequency of administration of lactulose is variable and will be adjusted by your veterinarian based on the response in the individual cat. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet wants to charge $20.00 to fax in the prescription. Can I take a picture of the label on the bottle and email to you??
-
No, we cannot accept a copy of a prescription from a customer. The only options are that we will fax a form to your veterinarian and they fax it back to us or you would need to mail in a written prescription to us. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My cat has been on lactulose for years. She's had small, hard & dry stools since spayed. I'm on pain meds & get lactulose. Hers is the same color/consistency as my lactulose 10 GM/15. Is mine safe to use (on her) @ 5mL/day? I'm disabled-can't afford hers!?
-
Lactulose is a prescription medication made available for your cat upon proper examination and diagnosis by your veterinarian. Speak to your veterinarian to discuss possible cost saving options to maximize the treatment outcome for your cat. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I am only interested in the clear, unflavored lactulose... not the orange or green kind or the flavored kind. What type do you stock??
-
While we make every effort to stock the Hi-Tech brand which is an unflavored lactulose, we cannot guarantee a specific brand. Pet owners for whom this is a concern, often call prior to placing their order to see what brand we have in stock at the time. Thank you, VetRxDirect

do u need prescrition to buy Lactalose?
-
Lactulose is a prescription medication. We can accept a prescription in a couple of different ways. Once an order is placed, we can fax a request to your veterinary clinic and they can fax it back or call to approve the medication, or the veterinarian can issue you a written prescription which can be mailed to us. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Are you still carrying the High-Tech Lactulose brand? This is the brand that my Vet prescribed and I would like to keep my cat on it. I would like to order it, but am hesitant because of your "manufacturers vary" statement.?
-
Janice, At this time, Hi-Tech is the brand of lactulose that we have in stock, however that does periodically change. While we cannot guarantee a specific manufacturer, Hi-Tech is also our preferred brand. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Just like Linda's query below, this is the only Lactulose that we've used without any problem for our dog. Do you currently have it in stock? code: NDC 50383-795-16 Thank you?
-
Kim, The NDC number you referenced is the product we currently have in stock. This is also the brand we try to keep in stock at all times. Only occasionally do we stock another NDC and only when the Hi-Tech brand is not available through distribution. Thank you, VetRxDirect
