Cats take this easily - dissolves better than the coated tab
I got a written prescription and ordered online from VetRXDirect for a cheaper price..... the pills I received had no coating. I tried dissolving them in a little tuna juice and the cats drank it and the pills dissolved completely! YEA. It has been over a year now and both cats are healthy again, went from skeletons to healthy. ONE VERY HELPFUL tip I found online on the pill makers site is that there is a much higher success rate with this thyroid medication if you give it TWICE a day. And it is definitely TRUE if you can possibly manage it. My cats improved fast once I started this pill cutting the dose in half so I could give it twice a day. Otherwise they hyper kicks in again and your cat is not getting the full benefit. My vet said it did not matter but it certainly does.
I alternate chicken juice (canned chicken) and tuna juice. And it doesn't take but a tablespoon per dose. I am so thankful my cats still take their medication like a treat! because I originally got the small coated pills from the vet and my cats would not take them and they did not dissolve.
I have several adult rescued cats. 2 of my older ones got skinny very fast and I was sure they had cancer because they were old and it happened fast. I took them in and both had hyperthyroid.
I got the coated pills from the vet and they were expensive and i could not get the cats to take them. I tried hiding the pills in food but within a few days both cats refused. And the coated pills will NOT dissolve fully.
I had to resort to forcing the pills into them. ---

The service I get from Vetrxdirect has always been good. However, this time the generic drug, which I have used for my cat for many years, must have come from a different manufacturer and while the pills are scored, they are so thick and the score line is so shallow that I have to use a pill cutter to cut them in half. I used to always be able to break them, which is much more convenient. I'm sure this is an easy fix by the manufacturer if someone would just point it out to them, so I hope Vetrxdirect will do that.

This medication helped my hyper thyroid cat
From UndisclosedComments about Methimazole (Generic) 5mg TabletMy vet prescribed this for hyperthyroidism. That RX has always had excellent customer service so I received it timely and it seems to be working. The cat no longer acts like she is starving since we doubled the dosage. I need to cut the pills in half and can do that easily and cleanly with just my fingers, no pill splitter necessary-

Generic version works beautifully for our needs
From UndisclosedComments about Methimazole (Generic) 5mg TabletThis generic version works great since we have been dissolving his meds in water and mixing in with a Churu stick for him to digest. Due to age he was beginning to refuse pills and I hated the fight… dissolving works beautifully and this product is a life saver as it regulates his hyperthyroidism beautifully.-

Q & A
-
can I order Methimazole without a vet's prescription??
-
David, No, Methimazole is a prescription medication, so legally, it requires veterinarian approval before we can dispense it. We can obtain approval from your dog's veterinarian in a couple of different ways - once an order is placed, we can fax your veterinarian for approval and they can fax back with the doctor's signature and the directions for use (by far the most common and the fastest method), or once we fax the clinic can call and verbally approve a prescription (some clinics prefer this method). We can also accept prescriptions written by the veterinarian that you can then mail to us, with your current order number written on the outside of the envelope. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Do I need to worry? Wrong cat was given 1 dose of 2.5mg.?
-
Vickie, Methimazole should be eliminated from your cat within a day. The drug usually takes up to 2-4 weeks to achieve maximum effect of the drug so one dose is unlikely to cause much harm. If you have concerns about your cat, please contact your pet's veterinarian for further evaluation. Thank you, VetRxDirect
