What problems could my dog or cat have with Mometamax?
- Do not allow the suspension to get into your pet's eyes.

- Your pet may experience some redness or discomfort at the application site.
- Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice the infection is not healing or is getting worse.

I Love This Site!
I have had a happy experience using Mometamax Otic Suspension for my Cocker Spaniel's ears. She has special dietary concerns and she is prone to intermittent ear issues. This product has eased these issues and provided me with peace of mind for the overall ear health of my pet, Dixie Yankee Doodle Dixie.

Made my 8 Year old Lab DEAF
I brought my 8 year old, fur baby in to a regular visit to the vet. They noticed some yeast in his ears and prescribed 7-8 drops/ear for 14 days along with Prednisone. After a few days we noticed he wasn't hearing well, but shrugged it off to being tired from his meds. After 7 days of application, we finally realized our Moose, who 7 days prior could hear a pin drop, was 80-90% deaf. It is heart-breaking to us and to him--he is so confused and sad.
We have reported to the vet and Merck Animal Health. It is a known, but not too common side effect, that impacts mostly older dogs, and/or any dog with a perforated ear drum. Our vet confirmed when we brought him back the next day that his eardrums were intact, but he still lost his hearing. Luckily, his hearing is slowly coming back after 2+ weeks (maybe 50-60% hearing now), but many people have reported their pets never regaining hearing. Please be careful and ask your vet about possible side effects from this medication or any medication with Gentamyacin in it (the antibiotic is what causes the ototoxicity).
Steer clear if you have a pet who is older or any pet that doesn't allow the vet to look deep inside the ear canal to ensure no perforations. If you notice hearing changes in your pet, discontinue the medication immediately and return to your vet. I had not received that advice and we are learning the hard way, but hope to spare you all the pain of what we have gone through.

Caused almost immediate 100% deafness in our healthy dog
From FloridaComments about Mometamax Otic SuspensionOur beloved cavapoo was 100% healthy and super responsive to verbal cues, an outstanding communicator. At her physical, vet said ears look good but swab showed infection, gave us these drops. After 2-3 days, she is 100%, scared, nervous. Horrific. -

Mometamax recommended by VET for ear issues
From Port Saint Lucie, FloridaComments about Mometamax Otic SuspensionWe have 2 cats, one consistently chews the ears on the other till they are cut and bleeding. The VET recommended MOMETAMAX for this problem. With MOMETAMAX, the cuts heal very quickly, and the taste deters the agressor cat for chewing on the ears. -
great product, easy to administer

Do you need a rx to order, I just need a refill my dog has the same issue again, am I able to do that??
-
Shauna, This medication does require a prescription. Typically, veterinarians won't approve a prescription for ear infection medication without a recent exam for the issue, so we recommend contacting your dog's veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

does Mometamax require a prescription ??
-
Yes, Mometamax is a prescription medication. We can obtain the prescription from your pet's veterinarian in a couple different ways. Once an order is placed, we can fax the clinic requesting authorization for the prescription, and the clinic can fax the prescription back or they can call and approve the prescription over the phone. We can also accept a written prescription if your pet's veterinarian would prefer to issue you a hard copy, in which case, you would just need to drop that in the mail to us after placing your order, and we'll be able to dispense the medication once we receive that prescription here. Thank you, VetRxDirect

How long will this take to arrive??
-
Angel, The length of time a prescription order can take varies some. For a typical order, once it is placed, we will fax over to your pet's veterinarian for the prescription, and generally receive those back within one to two business days, depending on the clinic. Once we receive the prescription from the veterinarian, it generally takes a business day to process the prescription and have it ready to ship out. Our standard shipping (which is free on most orders over $39) is 5 to 8 business days. We do expedited shipping options available, which would allow your order to arrive faster once the prescription is received. If your clinic does not authorize faxed prescriptions, they may issue a written prescription for the medication, in which case, that prescription would need to be mailed to us, which can add several additional days to the order. Thank you, VetRxDirect

can this be used on puppies who are 4 months old?
-
Debra, Mometamax will be dosed by weight and not by age, so there should not be any concerns with the age of your puppies. Mometamax has minimal systemic absorption if used appropriately and accurately as an ear drop. The dose will be determined by your pets' veterinarian, but standard dosing for Mometamax is 4 drops into the affected ear canal daily for 7 days for dogs weighing less than 30 pounds, and 8 drops into the affected ear canal daily for 7 days for dogs weighing more than 30 pounds. Thank you, VetRxDirect
