Neo Poly Dex for dog's ears
I have a 14 year old wire haired fox terrier, Alexander. For the past 3 years I've had a very difficult time protecting the pet from ear infection. LSU Veterinary Medicine, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in Fall 2016 recommended to my veterinarian using Neo Poly Dex in Alex' ears to control yeast infection. I currently use 2 drops in each ear, every other day. I was using B&L drops in Alex' ears until Spring 2017, when B&L eliminated distribution for use in animals. (Presumably because of shortage for human use in eyes) So, I found the Sandoz brand Neo Poly Dex manufactured by Alcon Labs which has the same ingredients as the B&L drops in April 2017 and switched to that brand. With the Neo Poly Dex drops and the use of Virbac Epi-Otic ear cleanser, used 2-3 times per week, Alex is now having much better ear exams and less cleaning every 2-3 weeks to protect his hearing.

Good product. However, it did not stop the tear discharge...
Good product. However, it did not stop the tear discharge of my puppy's left eye. So I am not sure if the vet was correct in prescribing this medication.

What is the difference between the suspension and the ointment??
-
The difference in these two medications is the consistency. The suspension is a liquid dosage form whereas the ointment is thicker and may require placing a strip of medication on the eye.

Does this medication have a suggested duration of administering it? e.g. the directions give a frequency (3-4 x d) however, no suggestion for how long. I am used to antibiotics having suggestions like 10 days or until finished.?

This product contains a steroid and two antibiotics, dexamethasone, neomycin, and polymixin b. The duration of therapy can depend on many factors including: what species is being treated, location of infection (eyes or ears), severity of infection, and geographical location (most common types of bacterial infections in your location). The length could be 5 days, 14 days, until clear, etc. Talk with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate duration of therapy for your pet's infection. Thank you, VetRxDirect
