Needed exact dosage not found over the counter
Our dog needs to take omeprazole for long term stomach problems. Our vet told us to buy the OTC ones and cut them in half. Well they are time released and by cutting them in half causes them to lose their effectiveness and availability like it should. So searching around I found that you offer the capsules in the dosage we needed 10 mg. We purchased them and viola! they are perfect. No pill splitting and best of all, we noticed that the medication is working better to control his problem because it is working time released as it is supposed to. Very quick and efficient in setting up and account and getting an RX from our vet. It was here in no time!

From UndisclosedComments about Omeprazole (Generic)Vetrxdirect was the only place we could find 10mg Omeprazole with the individual pearls inside the capsule. I have to open the capsule and count half of the pearls for my cat's 5 mg dose. Works great. Could find the 10mg at other places but it was either the powder or not specified. -

Prescribed by my dog's Neurologist
From UndisclosedComments about Omeprazole (Generic)My pug had an arachnoid cyst taken out 6 years ago and this last year developed a Syringomyelia which is a cyst filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Omeprazole is prescribed to decrease CSF production. It appears it's working pretty well her symptoms haven't worsened. I had a lot of trouble finding this dosage till I came to Visit.-

Is your Omeprazole 20 mg (delayed-release) capsules equivalent to Prilosec OTC 20mg (delayed-release) tablets??
-
Prilosec OTC is a brand of omeprazole labeled for over-the-counter use in humans. Omeprazole 20mg (delayed-release) capsule is a prescription product labeled for humans, that your veterinarian may prescribe for use in an extra label manner for your pet. The active ingredient, omeprazole, is the same in both of these medications. Always consult with your veterinarian before starting any supplement or over-the-counter medication.

I have a 12 lb cat that has been prescribed 5mg of omeprazole in the am and 5mg in the pm. I have some 10mg capsules. I am opening the capsule and halving the number of beads and putting half on a little bit of food in the am and half on a little bit of food in the pm before I feed a full meal. Is that an ok way to use it for effectiveness? Does opening the capsule make it so that the medicine is no longer time-release? Originally, my vet was having me split the 20 mg. tablets into 4 pieces and giving a quarter tab in the am and a quarter tab in the pm. I think you said that the tabs aren't supposed to be cut? Your answer would be much appreciated! -Mary?

Omeprazole capsules require a prescription from a veterinarian. Under the guidance of a veterinarian, pet owners may be instructed how to open omeprazole capsules and administer the contents in a manner specific to the individual pet. Please consult your veterinarian regarding omeprazole usage in your cat.
Verified Answer -
Under the direction and guidance of a veterinarian, the beads inside of an omeprazole capsule can be divided up and dosed as recommended. Giving the required amount of omeprazole in a small amount of food before the full meal is given can be an effective way to help ensure that the full dose of medication is consumed. Note that chewing or crushing the beads can cause them to no longer have a time-release effect. Please contact your veterinarian for further questions on dosing omeprazole for your cat.
Verified Answer -
Omeprazole should not be given with food; for it to be effective, it should be given at least 30 minutes prior, or about an hour after.

I have a 12 lb cat who is currently taking a quarter of a 20 mg. omeprazole tablet 2x day. If he switched to the 10 mg capsule of Omeprazole, can he just take one capsule a day because it is time release? Could I open the capsule and sprinkle it on his wet food??
-
How many microspheres are inside each 10 mg capsule, please? Thank you for your help.?
-
The exact number of microspheres will vary per 10 mg capsule. Evenly divide the microspheres if it is recommended to give ½ capsule per dose. Please consult your veterinarian for a demonstration to ensure proper dosing.

I, too, can't find 10 mg. OTC and don't wish to pay $$$ for human compounding and don't understand why online pharmacies require a prescription for a medication that otherwise doesn't require one (?), but my main question is usage. My cat doesn't swallow pills. One online pharmacy told me opening the capsule and sprinkling the contents on food would render it ineffective because it's time-released (that's assuming it doesn't taste bad and he even eats it). Another online pharmacy -- you, in the questions above -- disagree. Which??
-
This particular manufacturer (Dr. Reddy's) currently pictured on the website states that the capsule can be opened and administered in applesauce, however, we cannot guarantee the specific manufacturer supplied with purchase as this is a generic drug.

Hello: my vet prescribed Omeprazole 10 mg, twice a day for my 14 lb dog to help control her SM symptoms. I see that you sell the Omeprazole 10 mg, but delayed release. Is it the same pill? I tried to get it through my human pharmacy and they wanted over 190.00 for 30 pills. It is life-saving medication and I have no where else to turn. Appreciate any assistance, and thanks!?
-
Commercially, omeprazole comes in delayed-release capsules or tablets. Please contact your veterinarian and verify which dosage form would be appropriate for your dog.
