What is Otomax Otic Suspension for Dogs and Cats?
- Otomax is a prescription ear medication for dogs or cats that treats otitis externa, outer ear infection, caused by yeast and bacteria.
- Otomax contains gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate, and clotrimazole - an antibiotoc, an anti-inflammatory steroid, and an antifungal.
- Otomax works by killing infection causing bacteria and yeast in the ear and reducing the swelling and redness often associated with ear infections.
Why is Otomax used for cats and dogs?
- If your dog or cat has been diagnosed with otitis externa or an ear infection, your veterinarian may prescribe a suspension such as Otomax.
- Otomax kills the yeast and bacteria causing the infection and has a steroid to treat swelling and redness.
What else should I know about Otomax?
- Otomax may also be used to treat superficial skin infections.
- Dispose of the Otomax according to local regulations. Do not pour it down the drain.
What problems could my dog or cat have with Otomax?
- Do not allow the suspension to get into your pet's eyes.
- Do not use in dogs with damaged ear drums.
- Your pet may experience some redness or discomfort at the application site.
- Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice the infection is not healing or is getting worse.
- Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, sudden hearing loss, increasingly worse ear pain, head tilt, walking in circles, mouth sores, increased thirst, frequent urination, or worsening skin and hair issues at the application site.
How do you use Otomax?
- Shake well before use.
- Prevent your dog or cat and other animals from licking or grooming the treated ears for at least 20 to 30 minutes after application.
- Wear gloves or wash your hands immediately after handling the medication.
What is in Otomax?
- Otomax combines three drugs.
- It contains the antibiotic gentamicin sulfate, the antifungal clotrimazole, and the steroid betamethasone valerate.
Will I get what I see in the picture?
- Otomax is a brand name. You will receive the exact brand that you request.
Is it important for my dog or cat to finish all of the Otomax?
- Otomax contains an antibiotic and an antifungal. Resistance is a major concern when using antibiotics and antifungals. To help avoid resistance, it is important for you to use this for as long as your veterinarian has prescribed, even if you dog or cat is looking and feeling better.
Who makes Otomax?
- Otomax is made by the manufacturer Merck.

Love the 30gm plastic bottle
I use these ear drops to prevent and treat my cat's chronic ear inflammation. It is viscous and not too runny, so the medication stays in his ears. Just like the other reviewer noted, if you buy this in a small size, it comes in a metal tube that cracks. The larger size has a convenient plastic bottle that lasts and is easy to use. Great price from Vet Rx Direct for this medication.

It's working great for ear infections
My golden tends to develop ear itches and infections through the year. I clean her ears with the natural ointment and ear drops but when her allergy gets bad, her inner ears become red and look inflamed. Her vet recommended Otomax Otic Ointment and I notice her ears look pink after coupe days. It's working great for my dog and I have not noticed any side effects.

From UndisclosedComments about Otomax Otic OintmentMy sweet baby boy had an ear infection for over two years. They got so bad at one point they just oozed infection. we were at the dr so often that they were out of options except to keep him for a few days at a time and administer shots. This medication I just so happen to see after reading all reviews on different creams . I contacted his dr and I had them send in a prescription I used it twice a day on him and his ears cleared up in a matter of days .I will continue to purchase this medication as long as it continues to keep his ears clear. -
Will purchase again no doubt.
From UndisclosedComments about Otomax Otic OintmentThis product is amazing. After this first two days of use my boys ears were already showing signs of healing. I used it once In the am and once in the pm. The long tip makes it easy to get In The canal and the meds are thick but not to thick so it stays where it needs too after he shackles his head . I highly recommend this medication. -

we use ottomax for our sheepadoodle"s ears (they are very hairy and yes we pluck them as required), every time we need a prescription our vet wants us to make an appointment so we end up with a $150.00 bill plus the cost of the prescription, only one vet close to us. do you sell a non-prescription product that we can order. The last six times she has been examine (over 2 yrs), we are told the same thing yeast infection. Suggestions??
-
Otomax is a powerful combination of gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate, and clotrimazole which does require a prescription from your veterinarian. It would be best to consult with your veterinarian if there is another option to help minimize or decrease the likelihood of recurring yeast infection in your dog’s ear.

How many 5 drop doses are in a 15 G tube of Otomax ointment?
-
The Otomax otic ointment has about 450 drops per 15 gram tube. This number is an approximation and will depend on the size of drops administered. The 15 gram tube should provide about 90 doses if you are administering 5 drops to one ear. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet wont allow me to buy from anywhere else.. any suggestions??
-
Jessie, If your veterinarian will provide you with a written prescription, you would be able to mail that to us and we can fill from that. Otherwise the only other options are to get an OTC item that does not require a prescription or to maybe find another vet that would allow you to buy from somewhere else. Thank you, VetRxDirect
