What is Revolution for Cats?
- Revolution is a prescription topical heartworm preventative and parasiticide medication for cats.
- Revolution contains Selamectin to protect cats against fleas, heartworm, ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms for one month.
Why is Revolution used for cats?
- Revolution is a prescription, topical heartworm preventive.
- Revolution kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month, and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations.
- In cats, Revolution also treats and controls ear mites, as well as intestinal roundworm and hookworm infections.
What else should I know about Revolution?
- Revolution is for topical treatment in cats eight weeks of age and older.
- Bathing or shampooing the cat 2 hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against fleas.
- Bathing or shampooing the cat 24 hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against heartworm.
- The American Heartworm Society and most veterinarians recommend an annual heartworm test before prescribing a heartworm preventative for your cat.
- Revolution is sold as a prescription drug in a maximum of a 12-month supply per cat per year.
- To buy the same size for more than one cat, add what you need to the cart. You can split the amount among different cats at the checkout!
- Wash your hands after use and wash off any product in contact with the skin immediately with soap and water.
What problems could my cat have with Revolution?
- Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the treatment site in some animals. These effects are temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.
- Rare side effects of Revolution that usually are not serious may include skin irritation or loss of hair at the site of application.
- Rare side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem may include depression lack of energy or weakness, stumbling or collapse, dilated pupils, excessive drooling, seizures or coma. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
How do you use Revolution?
- Apply to the skin as directed by your veterinarian.
- Firmly press the cap down to puncture the seal on the Revolution tube; a clicking sound will confirm that the cap has successfully punctured the seal. Remove the cap and check to ensure that the tip of the tube is open.
- To administer the product, part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze the tube 3 or 4 times to empty its entire contents directly onto the skin in one spot until empty.
- Check the tube to ensure that it is empty. Do not massage the product into the skin.
- Due to alcohol content, do not apply to broken skin.
- Avoid contact between the product and fingers.
- Do not apply when the haircoat is wet.

Expensive but worth it!
From UndisclosedComments about Revolution (selamectin) for Cats 5.1-15 lbs, 6 Month SupplyFleas were especially bad this year and while 5 year old Pullman who is a 3 legged, indoor only rescue is one hilariously spicy boy by default, an unexpected infestation sent him over the edge. Other monthly treatments are proving to wear out at three weeks so while more expensive, revolution is not only the more durable option it also addresses other pests at the same time. This was even safe enough to use on my 14 1/2 year old kitty Lincoln who has some age related chronic issues... but fleas aren't one of them now! I've used Revolution for over a decade and it's been consistently effective so long as you don't skip multiple months - especially during summer and early fall!-
MOM!!! Imma gonna start my own revolution if you don't get rid of these fleas!

I'm wanting to find a new vendor (I've always ordered pet Rx online) and I had a question before I tried out vetRxdirect. From a suggestion from my vet, I've always bought the 40# revolution dose and then split it between my two dogs. would this be okay?
-
You can do that, but we can only put one pet's name on a prescription. So if you wanted a 12 month supply but split it between the two pets, you would just put it under one pet's name. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I gave my cats Advantage on 9-16-14 and it hasn't seemed to help. Is it too early to apply revolution? Also, I'm giving the cats a bath tomorrow - how long should I wait before giving Revolution??
-
Cathie, Revolution (selamectin) and Advantage (imidacloprid) are different classes of medications with different mechanisms of action to counter fleas, however, an interaction between the two when used in succession has not been well documented. You should consult with your cats’ veterinarian to determine if additional treatment is needed, or if an alternative product should be used. Advantage (Imidacloprid) topical solution is generally administered once monthly, consulting with your pets’ veterinarian will help determine if month-to-month treatments can be used safely for optimal flea control. Per the manufacturer, Advantage kills all life stages of fleas within 12 hours and prevents against future infestations by killing re-infesting fleas within 2 hours. Wetting of a pet’s coat following application does not appear to affect the duration of action, although frequent applications of shampoo may require you to apply additional treatment. Revolution (selamectin) should be applied at least 2 hours before bathing your pets, or allowing them to swim. Revolution should not be applied to wet hair coats. Your pets coat should be dry before application. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet gave me 5 to 15 lb Revolution heartworm medicine for our 3 cats. Now one at is 17 lbs and the other 2 cas or 10.1 and 11.6. Should I use 15.1 to 22 lbs or is the less weight one alright this 1 time??
-
Since Revolution (selamectin) is dosed by weight, it is important that your cat is receiving an adequate amount for prevention of heartworm infection (recommended amount is at least 2.7mg/lb for cats). The 5-15 lb dose would be slightly less than this recommended amount for a 17 lb cat. It would be important to speak with your pet’s veterinarian in order to get the appropriate dose for your pet to provide protection from heartworms. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is Fibrofort the same as what's in Revolution??? FOR dogs?
-
The active ingredient in Revolution is selamectin, which kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations, prevention of heartworm disease, and the treatment and control of ear mite infestations. Revolution also is indicated for the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange and for the control of tick infestations due to the American dog tick. You should ask your dog's veterinarian if Revolution would be a good alternative to your current heartworm/flea/tick preventive. Thank you, VetRxDirect
