What is Revolution for Cats?
- Revolution is a prescription topical heartworm preventative and parasiticide medication for cats.
- Revolution contains Selamectin to protect cats against fleas, heartworm, ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms for one month.
Why is Revolution used for cats?
- Revolution is a prescription, topical heartworm preventive.
- Revolution kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month, and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations.
- In cats, Revolution also treats and controls ear mites, as well as intestinal roundworm and hookworm infections.
What else should I know about Revolution?
- Revolution is for topical treatment in cats eight weeks of age and older.
- Bathing or shampooing the cat 2 hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against fleas.
- Bathing or shampooing the cat 24 hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against heartworm.
- The American Heartworm Society and most veterinarians recommend an annual heartworm test before prescribing a heartworm preventative for your cat.
- Revolution is sold as a prescription drug in a maximum of a 12-month supply per cat per year.
- To buy the same size for more than one cat, add what you need to the cart. You can split the amount among different cats at the checkout!
- Wash your hands after use and wash off any product in contact with the skin immediately with soap and water.
What problems could my cat have with Revolution?
- Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the treatment site in some animals. These effects are temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.
- Rare side effects of Revolution that usually are not serious may include skin irritation or loss of hair at the site of application.
- Rare side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem may include depression lack of energy or weakness, stumbling or collapse, dilated pupils, excessive drooling, seizures or coma. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
How do you use Revolution?
- Apply to the skin as directed by your veterinarian.
- Firmly press the cap down to puncture the seal on the Revolution tube; a clicking sound will confirm that the cap has successfully punctured the seal. Remove the cap and check to ensure that the tip of the tube is open.
- To administer the product, part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze the tube 3 or 4 times to empty its entire contents directly onto the skin in one spot until empty.
- Check the tube to ensure that it is empty. Do not massage the product into the skin.
- Due to alcohol content, do not apply to broken skin.
- Avoid contact between the product and fingers.
- Do not apply when the haircoat is wet.

Expensive but worth it!
From UndisclosedComments about Revolution (selamectin) for Cats 5.1-15 lbs, 6 Month SupplyFleas were especially bad this year and while 5 year old Pullman who is a 3 legged, indoor only rescue is one hilariously spicy boy by default, an unexpected infestation sent him over the edge. Other monthly treatments are proving to wear out at three weeks so while more expensive, revolution is not only the more durable option it also addresses other pests at the same time. This was even safe enough to use on my 14 1/2 year old kitty Lincoln who has some age related chronic issues... but fleas aren't one of them now! I've used Revolution for over a decade and it's been consistently effective so long as you don't skip multiple months - especially during summer and early fall!-
MOM!!! Imma gonna start my own revolution if you don't get rid of these fleas!

Q & A
-
how long does it take for revolution to kill fleas after application?
-
According to the package insert, laboratory studies found that greater than 98% of fleas were killed within the first 36 hours. The first application of this product will kill all fleas and eggs on your pet, but there is no information supporting when complete eradication will occur. The fleas on your pet, however, are only a small percentage of the fleas that could be infesting your home. Fleas like to be in dark places, such as carpet fibers, upholstery, bedding, and even behind baseboards. Some household cleaning tips to help get rid of fleas include: vacuum the carpets thoroughly (throw away the bag/empty out vacuum after each use as flea eggs can hatch within them); sweep and mop hardwood and linoleum flooring; wash your pet's bedding with hot water to kill the flea eggs and larva; and wash your pet's toys. Be sure to keep up this vigorous cleaning regimen until the flea problem is solved. You may consider treating your yard as well if fleas continue to be a persistent problem. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What's the difference between "Revolution" and "Advantage Multi"??
-
Revolution is a prescription topical parasiticide that contains selamectin. It is labeled to kill adult fleas and prevent flea eggs from hatching, control flea infestations, prevent heartworm disease, and for the treatment and control of ear mite infestations. Also, Revolution is indicated for the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange and tick infestations. Advantage Multi is a prescribed topical parasiticide as well but it contains the active drugs imidacloprid and moxidectin. It is indicated for the prevention of heartworm disease, the treatment of Dirofilaria immitis in heartworm-positive dogs, to kill adult fleas and control flea infestations, as well as the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange. Advantage Multi, is also indicated for the treatment and control of certain species of intestinal parasites including hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms. Talk with your dog's veterinarian before using these medications and follow their specific recommendations and guidelines. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Hi I got this medicine from the veterinarian and i applied on his fur in his back and he just licked it. is danger for him? and what can I do for him?? ?
-
Revolution is a topical antiparasitic medication used in the treatment of fleas, heartworm prevention and ear mites in both dogs and cats. Revolution is also indicated for the treatment of ticks and roundworms in cats. The recommended application procedure for Revolution, as specified by the manufacturer, is to part the hair on the animals back, at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades, and squeeze the medication from the tube onto the skin. This administration location has been chosen to minimize the chance of accidental ingestion. Oral ingestion of Revolution has been studied in cats, with the most common adverse events observed being salivation and vomiting. Contact your veterinarian with any concerns regarding your animal’s health and to discuss additional treatment options for the management of the conditions discussed above. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet gave me 5 to 15 lb Revolution heartworm medicine for our 3 cats. Now one at is 17 lbs and the other 2 cas or 10.1 and 11.6. Should I use 15.1 to 22 lbs or is the less weight one alright this 1 time??
-
Since Revolution (selamectin) is dosed by weight, it is important that your cat is receiving an adequate amount for prevention of heartworm infection (recommended amount is at least 2.7mg/lb for cats). The 5-15 lb dose would be slightly less than this recommended amount for a 17 lb cat. It would be important to speak with your pet’s veterinarian in order to get the appropriate dose for your pet to provide protection from heartworms. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I thought you could only give one or the other. Revolution or frontline, why would you need both?
-
Revolution kills adult fleas, flea eggs, and American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis), prevents heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and is used to treat and control ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), chewing lice infestations and sarcoptic mange. Frontline Plus kills all stages of the flea life cycle, brown dog ticks, deer ticks, American dog ticks, lone star ticks, and chewing lice. Using Revolution alone will not control flea larvae and ticks other than the american dog tick. Your dog's veterinarian will be able to help you decide which flea and tick preventive is best to use in your area, or whether Revolution alone will suit your pet's needs. Thank you, VetRxDirect
