What is Vetsulin Insulin for Dogs and Cats?

- Insulin therapy is prescribed to dogs and cats with diabetes. Diabetic animals are either unable to produce their own insulin or cannot use it properly.
- Insulin helps treat diabetes in cats and dogs by normalizing the glucose level in the blood.
- The insulin in Vetsulin is Porcine Insulin Zinc Suspension, a U-40, long-acting insulin. U-40 means that each milliliter of insulin is divided into 40 dosing units.
- Vetsulin 1/2cc syringes hold up to 20 units of insulin.
- Vetsulin 1cc syringes hold up to 40 units of insulin and are best for dosing high amounts of insulin.
- Vetsulin VetPen cartridges can be used with the Vetsulin VetPen or used as vials.
Vetsulin VetPen Starter Kits
- VetPen is an automatic insulin delivery pen device that is designed for the injection of insulin in diabetic dogs and cats.

- The starter kit is available in two size: The VetPen 8 is for small doses and the VetPen 16 is for larger doses.
- The VetPen is designed for use only with VetPen Needles and Vetsulin cartridges.
- VetPen sizes: The VetPen 8 can give 0.5 to 8 units in half-unit increments. The VetPen 16 can give 1 to 16 units in one-unit increments.
- VetPen Starter Kit contents: 1 VetPen, 1 Travel Pouch, 1 Needle Remover, 1 Dose Selector Applicator, 1 Release Button Extension, 28 VetPen Needles, 1 Instruction Manual.

BEST DELIVERY OF VETSULIN!
From UndisclosedComments about Vetsulin Insulin Vial, 40units/mL (U-40), 10mLVetRxDirect gets 12 stars. Getting Vetsulin delivered is more convenient than picking up from the vet every few weeks. We tried another "famous" online pet company but the packaging was terrible and the insulin was delivered warm! VetRxDirect contacted my vet quickly for authorization and the insulin was then delivered overnight! The packaging was AMAZING! It had triple ice packs in an insulated box and was packed snugly so the insulin didn't get tossed around. We were also able to order 3 vials instead of the normal limit of 2 which is helpful since we go through it quick. Butch is his happy, goofy self again with the Vetsulin. We rescued Butch from a shelter and are thankful to give him the best life possible with his meds. VetRxDirect even sent a lovely gourmet treat in the box! They have the best price on Vetsulin, too! We're forever customers now.-
Butch loves VetRxDirect!

Q & A
-
Can I purchase several cartridges at a time to take advantage of one shipping cost - or will the insulin expire? The package insert says to use within 42 days of puncturing the cartridge, which implies I can "stock up" with several cartridges at a time.?
-
Yes, the cartridges do have expiration dates which is when they are good to until opened. The cartridges that we have now have expiration dates of 8/2016. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can this be used instead of humulin n for my dog??
-
Vetsulin is a porcine based, prescription veterinary insulin used in the treatment of diabetes in dogs and cats. Vetsulin is classified as an intermediate acting insulin similar to Humulin N. Per the manufacturers website, Vetsulin is the only FDA-approved veterinary product for the management of diabetes in dogs and cats. The amino acid sequence of porcine insulin is exactly the same as insulin naturally produced by canines and similar to feline insulin. Your veterinarian may choose to utilize other forms of intermediate insulin including Humulin N and Novolin N. This choice of what type of insulin to use is best determined by your veterinarian. It is recommended that you contact your veterinarian to determine the best insulin therapy for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 40 UNITS, 10 ML..... OPPOSED TO THE 10 ML WITHOUT THE 40 UNITS? ?
-
Mariquita, The vetsulin we carry has 40 units/mL and is a 10mL vial. We are unaware of any other Vetsulin that is not dosed as the 40 units/mL. You may want to contact the company you are seeing that on to see what their Vetsulin is. It may just be that the 40 units is not displayed in the title. Thank you, VetRxDirect

you advertised that free shipping over 39.00 i ck'd an order and it was charging me shipping ...why...the order cost 39.99?
-
michelmun5, While free shipping is available on most orders, a few products do require a shipping charge. Insulin for example is shipped in a cooler, on ice, with next day service after a veterinarian's approval. Therefore, we are unable to supply a free shipping option. These charges are cleared displayed during checkout and on the e-mailed receipt sent to customers immediately after an order is placed. We're sorry for any confusion on this matter. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What is difference between sky - 18896 & 18897? Is one 100 syringes & one 500 (case)??
-
Pam, If you are asking about how many syringes come in a particular package, that is indicated with each product description. The vetsulin-branded monoject syringes come in 100-count packages. Some of the other syringe options come in smaller count packages, however, your pet's veterinarian is the best resource for helping you decide which syringe size, needle gauge, and needle length is right for the insulin dose you're administering. 1. Where does your company operate out of? Corporate office?2 I am looking for vetsulin FOR MY SOG. How will it be before I receive it once I have placed my order?3 Your Vetsulin is provided by who? Merck or another company? Thanks?
-
Karen, Our pharmacy is located in Coralville, Iowa, and all of our orders are shipped out of Coralville. The length of time a prescription order can take varies some. For a typical order, once it is placed, we will fax over to your pet's veterinarian for the prescription, and generally receive those back within one to two business days, depending on the clinic. Because insulin is a refrigerated medication, it requires Next Day shipping, so if we have the prescription back from the veterinarian before our shipping cut-off, those orders ship that day for delivery the next day. We do not ship insulins on Friday (unless you choose to upgrade to Saturday Delivery) as FedEx does not consider Saturday a deliverable business day for expedited shipping. If your clinic does not authorize faxed prescriptions, they may issue a written prescription for the medication, in which case, that prescription would need to be mailed to us, which can add several additional days to the order. Vetsulin is manufactured by Merck, and we receive all of our medications and over-the-counter items from licensed United States distributors. Thank you, VetRxDirect
