GREAT PRODUCT
We adopted a rescued ~3 year old Beagle in May of 2013. He is the best thing that has happened to me since my daughters were born. When we brought Eddy home he was afraid of everything. We would move the chairs on the deck and he would notice and shy away from going out. I bought him a new dog bed and he was to scared to even go sniff it (he loves it now). Eddy would also spend his day upstairs in the bedroom and only come down when he had to go out or eat, He would shy away when anyone would come towards him.
Well...in June our veterinarian suggested we try Anxitane (well not us, but Eddy). We bought a package and Eddy seemed to be getting better. We then thought after Eddy had been on the Anxitane for the full package that maybe he was better just because we had him long enough. We discontinued use and within 3 or 4 days his fearful tendencies returned. I immediately went back to the vet and purchased some more Anxitane. Eddy returned back to a calmer, more well-adjusted pal.
After that we started to purchase the Anxitane from Vet RX Direct due to the considerable price difference.
This is a great product (without being a prescription type like Prozac) that Eddy will be on for the rest of his LONG life!!

This is a good medication for pets with anxiety!
From UndisclosedComments about Anxitane (L-Theanine) M and L, 100mg L-Theanine per Tab, 30 Tablet BoxThis product was recommended by our veterinarian for our dog's anxiety when we leave the house without her. It works very well and I love that it's a natural product not a medicine. -

From UndisclosedComments about Anxitane (L-Theanine)I bought this product to help my dog stay calm during thunderstorms and fireworks. It really helps her through thunderstorms but didn't help her tolerate fireworks. I will keep using this product until thunderstorm season is over. -

Q & A

Why do you say "Not intended for use in animals with severe phobias, separation anxiety, or in animals with a known history of aggression."? Can it make a cat more aggressive? My 2nd oldest cat has anxiety around my youngest cats, and sometimes will have redirected aggression and hiss at us also. I think they might wrestle too hard for him but he hates if they even walk in the same room some days. He also used to be a bully cat and be mean to my oldest cat. I worry about giving him medication that could make him worse instead of better. Can this make him more aggressive or meaner??
-
L-Theanine is a natural supplement and has limited published data that documents its efficacy in animals with severe behavioral problems. L-Theanine has not been shown to increase aggression, however, due to this limited data, it is not recommended to be used in animals that have these known behaviors prior to speaking to a veterinarian. Please consult with your veterinarian to determine if Anxitane would be a good fit for your cat.

Can you please confirm the packaging and ingredients of the product you sell? There are two manufacturers of anxitane—one in America and one in France. The French version has different packaging and ingredients than the American version. The photo listed on your website is for the American version. Is that indeed the one you sell? Thank you so much!?

Both of my cats are on Anxitane (20 lb cat 1/2 tablet twice a day, 8 lb cat 1/4 tablet twice a day). I prepare pill containers for each of them for a week at a time so our morning and evening routines are easier. I just noticed that it says to keep in the blister pack until ready to use. Is this a problem, or is that just to prevent people from taking all of them out and not using for weeks? Thank you.?
-
The manufacturer of Anxitane, Virbac, recommends keeping the tablets in the blister pack until they are ready to be used to fulfill stability of the drug formulation. Removing the pills from the blister pack can potentially expose it to other substances and could result in cross-contamination with other medications if added to a pill box unwrapped.

My under 22lb dog ate a whole pill that i accidentally dropped while breaking it. Will he be okay?????
-
According to the manufacturer’s directions for use, small dogs weighing up to 22lbs, should recieve 1/2 tablet twice daily for long term or maintenance administration. During stressful events, dogs weighing up to 22lbs may receive 1/2 tablet every 12 hours and 2 hours before the event and a 1/2 tablet every 6 hours during the event. According to those directions, 1 whole tablet daily does not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended dosage. If you have any additional concerns regarding this medication and your dog, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

My two 10-year-old cats both eat a prescription diet of "low molecular weight food" due to one of them having a skin allergy. They recently began fighting with each other (cause unknown) and this was one of two similar products recommended by my vet to help with calming them and reducing aggression. The vet was unsure whether this supplement would interact/counteract the good that the prescription food is doing, simply by introducing a new "ingredient" to their diet. Can you please advise if this product is considered hypoallergenic or allergen-free??
-
The manufacturer states their have been no studies done in regards to this product with low-molecular weight diets. The manufacturer recommends to use this product at the veterinarian’s discretion.

In your description of this product you recommend it for dogs who get anxious when they are left, yet in the information about the product it says that it's not for dogs with separation anxiety. This is false advertising! Please enlighten me as to how "Not intended for use in animals with severe phobias, separation anxiety..." Is different from "If thunderstorms or your absence cause your dog or cat to be anxious or fearful, there is help." Please, which one is true?!??
-
Anxitane contains L-theanine, a natural occurring amino acid found in green tea that has been associated with relaxing effects. The manufacturer recommends this product to help reduce anxiety during stressful moments such as; thunderstorms, fireworks, car rides, socialization, aging, and traffic noise. It is not intended for use in animals with severe phobias, separation anxiety or in animals with a known history of aggression. During trials of this drug, owners were with their dogs while on the medication in order to report efficacy. In some cases, behavior problems were associated with separating (owner leaving or death of another pet), moving (to a new home or a change in animal's immediate environment), and traumatic events (accidents). Talk with your veterinarian to determine if anxitane is something you dog can benefit from. Thank you, VetRxDirect
