A regular part of our care routine for dog's kidney failure
We use this as a supplement for our four-year-old dog, who has stage 3 chronic kidney failure. Our vet recommended it in addition to his prescription medication to boost kidney function. Our dog is willing to eat it sprinkled on top of his wet food. I'm not a vet, so it's hard to quantify how much it helps our dog, but we haven't had any problems with it making him nauseous, which he is prone to. If your vet recommends it, I would say give it a try. We ordered the same product from another company when we were living oversea, and the quality of the product we received from VetRxDirect was just as good. We're planning to purchase it here again when we go through everything. #sweepstakes

How on earth do you give this to a cat?
The vet gave this to me to pay for so it can sit on my counter. There is no way to get this inside my cat. A large scoop of powder? Are you kidding? My cat eats one kind of soft food and if it smells different she will voluntarily starve to death before touching it. I can force-feed a small amount of powder dissolved in gravy, but I'm already doing this with an incompatible supplement for arthritis and I can only manage that once a day. There needs to be some kind of concentrated tiny cat-sized dosage. I just don't even know what to do with this.

Kitty Approved!
From UndisclosedComments about Aventi Kidney Complete for Dogs and Cats 10.5oz (300g) PowderThis was suggested by our vet when our girl was diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. It's a very small amount of powder per-dose, with a big jar, so that's super nice! It mixes really well into food, or a wet treat, and she doesn't notice it at all.-

Aventi, it does work.
From UndisclosedComments about Aventi Kidney Complete for Dogs and Cats 10.5oz (300g) PowderMy 15 year old Border Collie is in kidney failure. In October his kidney values were increasing despite sub-q fluids. I started him on Aventi and his appetite picked up and his numbers went down. I wish it mixed with water better but his appetite is good enough now that he eats it in his food.-

Q & A

I've currently been giving Aventi, Would there be benefit in also giving aluminum hydroxide? Is one more effective than the other? My dog hasn't been tested for levels in a while, but I figure anything to help boost neutralizing phosphorous is good.?
-
Aventi utilizes phosphate binders (calcium carbonate, calcium lactate gluconate, chitosan), which help to lower the amount of phosphorus absorbed from food. Aluminum hydroxide is also a phosphate binder that is used when dietary restriction fails to maintain levels at a normal range. However, lowering phosphate levels too much can lead to muscle weakness, tremors, loss of appetite, and muscle pain. It is recommended that you consult with your veterinarian to determine if your dog still has not reached normal levels or if adding aluminum hydroxide would be needed for further treatment of excess phosphate in your dog.

My cat has been using this product for 1.5 weeks, 2 of the smaller scoops as per her 10.5 lb weight. She is now constipated. I'm thinking of reducing the daily amount, would this be an appropriate response. Would 1 scoop instead of 2 be better??
-
The two major ingredients in Aventi Kidney Complete for Dogs and Cats are calcium carbonate and calcium lactate gluconate. Constipation is a noted side effect of these two medications. Altering the doses of any supplements should be approved by your vet prior. They have the most up to date medical history of your dog and can provide the best recommendations for them.
