Excellent product.
After more than a year on a downward spiral of antibiotics and prednisone, even a lip fold surgery, for chronic ulcerative stomatitis, I found a Greyhound rescue site that strongly recommended Oratene Antiseptic Oral Gel. In desperation, I started him on it the end of October, 2013. In just a few days there was improvement and soon he was back to the playful boy that had been gone for so long. He is now on Oratene Maintenance Gel and doing well as of 1-25-2014.

Awesome product but dog won't drink it
After just a few uses, our dog's bad breath was DRASTICALLY reduced. This product works AMAZINGLY well. Unfortunately our dog noticed something was "off" about his water and went on strike. We tried for two weeks to get him to drink the stuff. He drank as little as possible and actually laid in front of his bowl and growled. We finally had to throw the product away and are now using a different one that doesn't work as well, but that he will drink. If your dog will drink this, it's an amazing product.

From UndisclosedComments about OrateneHave improved the quality of our cat's teeth since adding Oratene to their water. I had previously purchased this from other providers but the overall experience with vetrxdirect was exceptional. Anticipating many more years using this company for our pet's needs. -
The best there is on the market today
From UndisclosedComments about OrateneThis is the best brushless system on the market. I've tried every product there is and the buck stops here. Works great especially in combination with "Maxi/Guard oral cleansing wipes" -
My dogs love it!
From UndisclosedComments about OrateneThe only reason I didn't give 5 stars is it needs to be available in the larger size. -
Seems to work
From undisclosedComments about OrateneI buy separate water for the cats and treat it with this. Our one cat had gum issues and needed 2 teeth extracted 6 years ago, but since then his exams have been much better. -
Great Product
From undisclosedComments about OrateneI have a 19 year old Cat named Oliver. I started using thing product a few years ago, and I have been very satisfied with its results. Whenever Oliver goes to the Vet for a checkup (at least 2 times a year), the Vet always looks at his teeth and is very happy with their condition. I attribute this fact to this product that I put in his drinking water bowls. I would recommend this product. -
I would buy the gel Oratene products again
From Bayville,NJComments about OrateneMy adopted yr old kitties contracted stomatitis/gingivitis and we're facing tooth extractions at such a young age. Jamie's mouth was infected and raw. Neither one will let me brush teeth but they let me use my finger to rub on gums and teeth every night. Both have cleared since I use the antiseptic gel, bright red gums are now pink and they are eating again. I will alternate wth the Oratene Maintenance Gel. Wonderful stuff, even the Vet is surprised. The water additive seems to be wasted because they are young, eat wet food and don't drink much water. Won't buy that agIn until they are older. Will start the vitamin soon, they don't like it in the food so I break it open & rub on teeth & gums in the am. Will be using this stuff forever as it is saving their teeth. So far so good. -

I tried this gel once on my cat who has moderate gingivitis. He tolerated it very well. However the next day he developed acid reflux that has lasted a couple days. I have stopped the gel treatment to see if is related or not. Have you heard of this happening before??
-
Oratene gel is well tolerated by pets needing treatment for cleaning the mouth. The manufacturer states that there are no adverse effects to this product. If you would like to discuss this with the manufacturer, Pet King Brands, you may contact them over the phone (1-630-241-3905; 1-888-PKB-5487 (toll free)) or via their website. If your cat has been experiencing symptoms for a couple of days, he may need to be taken into a veterinarian to assess the potential causes of his symptoms and ensure that he receives treatment if necessary. I am a maltes breeder. Can I use oratene on my dogs. Is water additive the best or is toothpaste better. If do you have oratene toothpaste.??
-
The manufacturer of Oratene does not make a toothpaste dosage form of Oratene, however, they do make an Oratene gel. Both the Oratene gel and Oratene drinking water additive are safe for daily use in your dog. The Oratene gel is to be applied to your pet’s upper and lower gums in the morning, evening and after meals and does not require brushing. The Oratene drinking water additive is a flavorless solution to be added to your pet’s water bowl upon every water change. These products are most effective when used on a consistent basis. Please consult your veterinarian prior to starting any new medications or over-the-counter products for your pet.

What amount of the Drinking Water Additive for cats would be used to 1/4 cup water. Cats do not drink near the water that dogs do, so making up a quart is too much.?
-
Wendle, According to the manufacturer 1 pump of Oratene is 1 cubic centimeter or 1 milliliter. One pump can treat 2 cups of water. If you wanted to treat 1 cup of water you could obtain an oral syringe and measure 0.5 milliliters of Oratene, then add to one cup of water. To treat 0.5 or ½ cup you would need to measure 0.25 milliliters of Oratene. To treat 0.25 or ¼ of a cup , you would need to measure 0.125 milliliters of Oratene. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Aloe Vera in Oratene gels? Is this products safe for cats ? I Read aloe is toxic to cats? We were looking to purchase both oratene maintenance and antiseptic gels for Our Sphynx cats send bengal cat?
-
According to the manufacturer, the Aloe Vera contained in Oratene is an extract with the toxic part excluded. The part that is excluded could be toxic if the cat ate the plant. Additionally there is only a small percent of Aloe Vera in Oratene. Therefore Oratene is safe for cats if used as directed. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I got this from a veterinary dentist and the description is"for veterinary use only" & "helps remove plaque and inhibit odor causing bacteria" rather than the one you show which states "helps remove plaque biofilm. Do you have the other one??
-
The older product (labeled Biotene - for veterinary use only) states that it "helps remove plaque and inhibit odor causing bacteria" the newer version (Oratene) states that it "helps remove plaque BIOFILM and inhibit." The ingredients are in a different order, meaning the strongest ingredient on the older version is not as prevalent in the new version.
Community Answer -
I am not sure exactly which product you are referring to with the Oratene products, but the mouthwash and the drinking water additive both do state "inhibit odor causing bacteria" as well as the "helps remove plaque biofilm". If you look at the product page on the VetRxDirect website, there is a package insert tab where there are links for each product. Those links will give a detailed description of the product from the manufacturer. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Wondering if you use fluoride in your products??
-
The manufacturer for the Oratene products (formerly called Biotene) does not list fluoride as an ingredient in any of the four products we carry - the antiseptic oral gel, maintenance oral gel, drinking water additive, or the breath freshener. Thank you, VetRxDirect

how long does a tube last for a toy poodle?
-
How long any product lasts depends on a variety of factors, including how much you use and how often. As you reference a tube in your question, you are probably asking about the maintenance oral gel or the antiseptic oral gel. The directions for use on the maintenance oral gel: Apply a 1/2” strip to upper and lower gums daily. Best if used in the morning, at night and after meals. The directions for use for the antiseptic oral gel: Apply a 1/2” strip to upper and lower gums twice daily. Continue use for 5-7 days or until infection subsides. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Been giving for a few days. One my dogs, Austrailian Terrior, seems to be a liitle confused. If they get too much can this happen??
-
I tried a water additive a few years ago and my one small dog got very confused as well and kept going back to to drink over and over more than she ever did. I stopped using and she went back to normal. I want to use water additive but I fear it is not as safe as it seems, I guess depending on your dog- my other 2 were fine. I may try this kind but use half the recomended dose.
Community Answer -
Marie, Oratene (formerly Biotene) Veterinarian Drinking Water Additive does not contain alcohol, antibiotics, xylitol, or chlorhexidine and is safe to use when following the manufacturer's directions. There are no side effects associated with Oratene Veterinarian products. These oral care products contain naturally-occurring enzymes that reduce your pet's mouth odor and decrease plaque formation on your pet's teeth. We recommend discussing your pet's symptoms with your dog's veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect
