Excellent product.
After more than a year on a downward spiral of antibiotics and prednisone, even a lip fold surgery, for chronic ulcerative stomatitis, I found a Greyhound rescue site that strongly recommended Oratene Antiseptic Oral Gel. In desperation, I started him on it the end of October, 2013. In just a few days there was improvement and soon he was back to the playful boy that had been gone for so long. He is now on Oratene Maintenance Gel and doing well as of 1-25-2014.

Awesome product but dog won't drink it
After just a few uses, our dog's bad breath was DRASTICALLY reduced. This product works AMAZINGLY well. Unfortunately our dog noticed something was "off" about his water and went on strike. We tried for two weeks to get him to drink the stuff. He drank as little as possible and actually laid in front of his bowl and growled. We finally had to throw the product away and are now using a different one that doesn't work as well, but that he will drink. If your dog will drink this, it's an amazing product.

MY dogs breath is stinky!!!
From New jerseyComments about OrateneThis product appears to be tasteless and orderless, However I do not really see a big difference YET. I have 9 dogs and 8 of them share a bowl. I believe I need to use it a little longer to really see if it works. -
Keeps my dog from a dry cough.
From Knoxville, TN, USAComments about OrateneMy dog has a collapsed tracha muscle and it is very important to keep his coughing to as little as possible. He take numerous medications that cause dry mouth, but with us using this product we have kept his cough down to very low. I've been using this product for 2 years now and quit satisfied. -

Very effective
From Spring Valley, IL, USAComments about OrateneI use the Oratene antiseptic gel in a multi-cat household in which stomatitis is a common problem. The gel can cure a mild case and improve the cat's comfort level in a moderate case. Use it as soon as you see signs of inflammation: a cry of pain, jumping back while eating, a dark discharge around the mouth. In most cases you should eventually get your cat to a vet for an evaluation, a steroid injection, or maybe dental surgery, but in the meantime, the gel makes a big difference. -
Great product
From Bettendorf, IA, USAComments about OrateneBest product for my chihuahua's teeth so far. After having his teeth cleaned 8 months ago and several teeth pulled, I was fearing the worst, i.e. loosing all of his teeth. After only a few months of cleaning, his teeth were collecting tarter again. I used some other products and tooth pastes, but they didn't do much. The Oratene antiseptic gel worked wonders, and followed by the Oratene maintenance gel and water additive, my chihuahua's teeth are white again, and his gums look healthier. Great products. -

Q & A

I found this article about the ingredients that are used in Oratene; Gel type for dogs and cats released by PKB Japan. It contains ingredients such as "potassium iodide" whose purpose is not clear. In addition, "glyceryl methacrylate" is originally an ingredient used in cosmetics such as body cream as a film-forming agent. It is not approved as a food additive in Japan or abroad, so it would not be appropriate to put it in the toothpaste you put in your mouth. Also, no safety information is available. Are those ingredients such as Hydroxyethyl cellulos and glyceryl methacrylate safe enough to use for cats and dogs??
-

One of the ingredients in Oratine Oral Gel is aloe vera. I have read that it has not been determined if aloe vera is toxic to cats. I am concerned about that. Also, can I mix the treated drinking water with food? My cat does not drink out of the water bowl normally so I add water to her food.?
-
According to the manufacturer, the Aloe Vera contained in Oratene is an extract with the toxic part excluded. The part that is excluded could be toxic if the cat ate the plant. Additionally there is only a small percent of Aloe Vera in Oratene. Therefore Oratene is safe for cats if used as directed. They also state that Oratene Drinking Water Additive has not been tested in food and cannot say if it would be effective.

My dog's bowl holds 1 cup of water. Since 1 pump treats 2 cups of water, can I still dispense one pump into 1 cup of water??
-
According to the manufacturer, one pump of Oratene Drinking Water Additive contains 1 mL of solution. One pump is indicated to treat 2 cups of water. Therefore, if you would like to add it to one cup of water instead, you would need to measure out 0.5 mL of solution. This can be measured using an oral syringe. Thank you, VetRxDirect
