My cat has a chicken allergy (possibly to all poultery and eggs, not sure) and developed skin inflammation after taking this supplement. His diet does not currently include any chicken so I am trying to determine the cause. Do the inactive ingredients contain any poultry or egg proteins??
-
The manufacturer informed that the Denamarin chewables contain Hydrolyzed chicken flavoring. The Denamarin solid tablets do not contain any chicken ingredients or flavorings. The chewable Denamarin tablets are also recommended to be used in dogs and the Denamarin solid tablets are recommended for cats. My dog has been taking Denamarin tablets for the past 4 yrs. She has just recently started to vomit the tablet, up to 8 hrs after taking it. It appears as though it is not getting absorbed. I have tried giving it to her in the chewable form, and that seems to be working. Is this a common problem???
-
Frequent vomiting is not commonly reported with Denamarin tablets. The manufacturer reports that the active ingredients in Denamarin have been shown to be well-tolerated by both dogs and cats with a wide margin of safety. Please follow up with your veterinarian as this symptom may indicate a different underlying issue.

Thank you for that answer. Are the chewable tabs coated in flavoring? My dog is on a hypoallergenic diet and flavoring is contraindicated. Thank you!?
-
Per the manufacturer, there is artificial roast beef flavoring in the chewable tablets; therefore they suggest using the original enteric-coated Denamarin tablets instead of the chewable tablets if hypoallergenic diet is a concern. It would also be important to discuss any new supplements or dietary concerns with your pet’s veterinarian as well. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My westie is on Denamarin for med. dogs (1/day). What is the difference between this and the Denosyl 225mg I also find available??
-
Denamarin and Denosyl are both supplements available for liver support in cats and dogs. Denamarin contains the following active ingredients: S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and silybin A and B. Denosyl contains SAMe only. S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a molecule naturally made in the body, which helps in brain, liver, and other tissue function. Supplemental SAMe is thought to increase liver cell function in animals with decreased liver function. Silybin A and B, are extracts of silymarin (commonly known as milk thistle). Milk thistle is thought to improve liver function by acting as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, protecting the liver cells from toxins. Both Denamarin and Denosyl are available in different doses depending on your pet’s weight. If you are considering switching or starting any new supplements, it would be important to speak with your pet’s veterinarian in order to select the most appropriate supplement and dose. Thank you, VetRxDirect
