What are DL-Methionine Tablets for Cats and Dogs?
- DL-Methionine is a supplement that helps make the urine more acidic.
- This may reduce the formation of certain types of urinary stones.
Why do cats and dogs use DL-Methionine?
- Veterinarians may recommend a supplement like DL-Methionine to promote acidifying the urine, which may help prevent and treat certain types of stone formations and reduce odor from the urine.
What problems could my dog or cat have with DL-Methionine?
- Methionine is not recommended for kittens, or for animals with renal failure, pancreatic disease, or liver insufficiency.
- Possible adverse effects include gastrointestinal upset. If given with food, methionine may have reduced side effects and increased efficacy.
- Methionine can be given with food or mixed in food unless otherwise instructed by your pet's veterinarian.
- If too much methionine is given or if overdosage occurs, it can lead to anorexia, uncoordinated muscle movement, and cyanosis (a blue or purple pigmentation of the skin due to low oxygen levels).
How do you use DL-Methionine?
- Give as directed by your veterinarian.
- Discuss the use of new supplements with your veterinarian before you start giving them.
What is in DL-Methionine?
- The active ingredient in DL-Methionine is Methionine, a nutritional supplement and urinary acidifier.
Will I get what I see in the picture?
- These DL-Methionine tablets are the VET Pharmaceuticals brand. You will receive the exact brand that you request.
Is it important for my dog or cat to finish all of the DL-Methionine?
- Dogs and cats may use DL-Methionine for different lengths of time. Please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions.

Supposed to Help with UTI
Well they asked for a review, which is hard to do. But 2-year-old Border Collie has had regular UTIs and this is supposed help move the PH to a less hospitable environment. Seeing as our water is Basic I'm hoping this help. Will update in 3 months, only 1 month in to treatment.

I will use this product for ever for my old girl
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineSame thing vets prescribed for my dog but a 1/3 the price. This is a great company to do business with. And the treat that give your pup is way cool! -
Would buy again as needed from vet.
From undisclosedComments about DL-MethionineOur vet prescribed this for our basset hound. Vet rx has better pricing. Since this was a long term treatment we choose this option,1000 pills at vet rx cost the same as a one month supply from our vets office. -
I have great experience with VetRx :)

Good experience
From undisclosedComments about DL-MethionineVery happy with my first order. Arrived in two days and I didn't even need the vet's prescription. Seems to be exactly what I've been using for years, but a different brand. -

Much cheaper than the vets office
From undisclosedComments about DL-MethionineI have to give this twice a day to my cat who is prone to bladder crystals. Shipping was fast too. -
I hope this product never goes away!
From undisclosedComments about DL-MethionineI use this for my cat who was fixed too young. He gets an obstructed urethra without this medicine. I grind it to a powder and give him 1/4 teaspoon (1/2 tab eqv.) in a tablespoon of tuna twice a day. He's been fine for 12 years now. -
Great product
From undisclosedComments about DL-MethionineI use this to keep my dogs urine in the pH range it should be. She has both kinds of urinary stones and it's hard to regulate so she doesn't get stones. This helps a lot! -
I would definitely buy again

I just got home and my 3 year old 40 pound dog opened the container and ate ALL of the remaining tablets. I have been feeding him 3 a day and I started with them on two (2) weeks ago. Is he going to die? What should I do?Miss Kitty?

You state that dl-methionine doesn't require a script. On another pet med website, it says a script IS needed. Why the difference??
-
The brand of DL-methionine that we currently sell is VET Pharmaceuticals, which is specifically sold as a nutritional supplement in dogs and cats. Nutritional supplements do not require a prescription from a veterinarian. However, there are more concentrated forms of DL-methionine that require a prescription, such as Methio-Form, which we do not carry. The decision to require a prescription is dictated by each company that produces DL-methionine. This may be the reason why you see other pharmacies requiring a prescription from a veterinarian. Please consult with your veterinarian to determine if your pet requires prescription-only DL-methionine or DL-methionine supplement. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.

You stated in an answer regarding dosing that the dose for dogs is 1/2 tab per 10# once to twice per day for both the 200 mg and the 500 mg tabs. That doesn't make sense. The 200mg tab would be a dose of 100-200 mg daily while the dose for 500mg tab world be 250-500 mg daily. That is a large difference. Please clarify?

DL-Methionine 500mg tablets: Adult cats: 1 tablet per 10 pounds 1 or 2 times daily. Dogs: 1/2 tablet per 10 pounds 1 or 2 times daily. DL-Methionine 200mg tablets: Adult cats: 1 tablet per 10 pounds 3 or 4 times daily. Dogs: 1 tablet per 10 pounds 1 or 2 times daily. DL-Methionine should be given with food, and dosage should be adjusted to maintain urinary pH consistently below 6.6. DL-Methionine is not intended for use in kittens. Thank you!

My dog is very finicky do they taste good.?
-
Customers review the product as having a “treat” like smell. It can also be crushed and added to your dog’s food if it is not palatable to your dog as a treat.

My dog won't go near this product and i tried everything. Soft food, Liver worst, cheese, Apple Sauce and other cold cuts that a dog is allowed and she doesn't go near it. She wouldn't go near her soft food for a few days in fear that it was in there.

Hi, could I ask a question about the dosage of 500mg. It states on the package insert that cats should have 1 tablet one or two times a day, but dogs get 1/2 a tablet one or two times a day. That seems odd to me as a cat is a lot smaller that some dogs. It this actually correct. Thank you?
-
According to the package label, cats should receive one tablet per 10 lb of weight once or twice daily with food, and dogs should receive one-half tablet per 10 lb of weight once or twice daily with food. Please contact your veterinarian to determine the best dose for your cat or dog.
