It Worked!
From Washington, DCComments about HydrOXYzine HCl (Generic)After spending several thousands (literally; I keep records) on vet bills and numerous bottles of medicated shampoos in trying to find a way to stop my Maltese from licking and chewing away his hair, the fourth vet I consulted prescribed this drug. It works; now I just give it as needed. -
Kennel cough
From UndisclosedComments about HydrOXYzine HCl (Generic)Only got two weeks ago, hope it will work to lessen her cough. -
Takes the edge off the allergy itchies
From Charlotte, NC, USAComments about HydrOXYzine HCl (Generic)I tend to stay away from prescription meds but this is the only medication that works on my Australian Shepard Mix. He has suffered for years with skin allergies in NC due to grass/tree pollen. He still scratches but it's not constant and he doesn't chew his paws anymore. I haven't seen any side effects either. I get the uncoated tablets because I need to break them in half to adjust his dosage. I only give this to him when it's needed. The price on VetRxDirect is fantastic. Can't get this price from my vets office!

Is hydroxyzine hydroxide the same as my prescription that just says hydroxyzine (one word)? Also does it com in 5 mg? Thank you, cheryl myers?
-
Hydroxyzine is available in two salt forms: hydroxyzine hydrochloride and hydroxyzine pamoate. Your pharmacy should be able to tell you which form you received. They are similar, but not exactly the same. The human-labeled hydroxyzine products do not come as a 5 mg tablet though. Please contact your veterinarian to discuss if this medication is the best choice for your pet's needs. Thank you, VetRxDirect

my vet prescribed Hydroxyzine Pamoate for my Pug, are these 2 drugs the same thing??
-
Hydroxyzine is commonly used as an antihistamine, anti-itch and sedative product for pets. Conditions for use may include allergic reactions or hypersensitivity reactions that may or may not have been in contact with an allergen. Hydroxyzine hydrochloride comes in with a tablet dosage form and hydroxyzine pamoate is available as capsules. They are different salt forms of hydroxyzine and might have slightly different pharmacokinetics profiles, but are interchangeable when used clinically. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My dog has a compromised liver. Is this ok to take. Greg?
-
Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine that is metabolized by the liver so there may be concern for its use in your dog. The medication is also metabolized to an active form of the drug called cetirizine and your dog would not achieve an expected response to the medication normally seen in dogs with normal liver function. It would be best to contact your veterinarian for assistance choosing an appropriate antihistamine in relationship to the health status of your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

-
Proe, With any prescription medication, it is important to follow the directions and dosage prescribed by the veterinarian. It is also important to report to your veterinarian any side effects and how well this medication is working for your dog. The medication may need to be changed or the dose adjusted if noticeable improvement is not seen in your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect
