Great Bargain
Because our cat Belle has a chronic condition for several years now, she has to take this with every meal. Buying directly from her vet was just too expensive, as were other online sites. Also, the employees who package and ship it are always great about putting in the treats for a cat and not a dog, as another site was always doing.

Works, but a sticky mess
This product is a stool softener that treats constipation. My cat with mega colon is on it. It seems to work well, but is sticky and messy. I use it with an oral syringe and I have to decant it into a smaller vessel in order to draw up a dose. If you get it on the pet's fur you have to wipe it up with a moist towel immediately or it causes mats. Also, my cat is a diabetic and was in remission (off insulin and diet controlled) when I started her on it, but her blood sugar started to spike soon after and she has been back on insulin. Product information claims it uses a sugar molecule too large to be absorbed from the intestines, but I don't believe that.

No problems here 👍
From UndisclosedComments about Lactulose Solution, 10g/15mL 8oz BottleThis is a much better deal than buying it from the local vet. My 16 yo CKD cat was having bad constipation problems and this was prescribed for her. She is doing well with it and doesn't mind it mixed in with her food. -

Q & A
-
Is there a shelf life? If I keep it stored in a cool, dark place, will it last a year??
-
Lactulose solution has an expiration date printed on the bottle by the manufacturer. Expiration dates vary from order to order and VetRxDirect pharmacy always ensures the products have valid expiration dates before shipping out orders.

The vet prescribed "1417 Lactulose." Is that what this is??
-
We recommend asking your veterinarian about the term 1417 Lactulose. Lactulose solution is normally referred to by name, without a number, and we are not familiar with that version.

Do I need a prescription for this product? Also, is this the clear solution??
-
Lactulose solution is a prescribed laxative used to relieve constipation. It is a clear solution that can be colorless to slightly yellow in color. Under recommended storage conditions, a normal darkening may occur due to the sugar content found in the product. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 86°F or to direct light may cause extreme darkening and turbidity in which case the product should be disposed of. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Does the opened bottled need to be refrigerated? Does the unopened bottle need to be refrigerated??
-
It does not need to be refrigerated at all. It should be stored at room temperature at all times. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Will this help my beagle dog and ease his pain when he poops?
-
There are many factors that could be contributing to your dog struggling to defecate, including stress, dehydration, and a low fiber diet. Lactulose is a disaccharide sugar that helps increase the amount of fluid in the colon, softening the stool making it easier to pass. Making sure he stays well hydrated will also help keep his stools softer. Contact your veterinarian to discuss if he is getting enough fiber in his diet and if lactulose is the best option for your beagle. Thank you, VetRxDirect

what is the different in human solution and dog solution?
-
The lactulose product listed on the VetRxDirect web site is the human approved lactulose solution that is commonly prescribed by veterinarians for use in cats and dogs. There are no commercially available veterinary labeled lactulose options therefore the human labeled lactulose is commonly prescribed for pets when needed. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My dog has Portasystemic shunt, my vet said he will need o stay on Lactulose for the rest of his life, I would like to buy several bottles at one time, how do I get my vet to write a precription for that!?
-
You can place an order for however many bottles you would like and we will fax your vet for the approval, or they can write a prescription for it but we would only be able to fill however many they write it for. We also can only fill a year's worth of prescriptions also. Thank you, VetRxDirect
