The Only Method That Would Potentially Save My Grandkitty
From UndisclosedComments about Methimazole Suspension (Compounded) (Chicken) 5mg/ml, 60mlI picked Vet RX Direct because they could compound my grandkitty's hyperthyroidism medication into a flavored liquid. My girl is virtually impossible to sneak something by-- she can smell hidden medicine from 3 ft. away! So, I hide the liquid medicine in sardine water with just a bite of sardines and she's taking it! Thank you, Vet RX -- I wouldn't have been able to treat her at all without your help!!! :-)-

Great product, works well!
From Knoxville TNComments about Methimazole Suspension (Compounded)Cleo easily takes this medicine with no trouble at all. I have tried both flavored and unflavored, and the unflavored works best when mixed with some wet food or baby food. This product works as Cleo's thyroid has stabilized. -

Medicine is easy to give to my cat!
From UndisclosedComments about Methimazole Suspension (Compounded) (Fish) 10mg/ml, 60mlThis medicine has made a huge difference in my cat's quality of life since her diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism a few years ago. I just add the liquid on top of her wet food 2x/day and she doesn't even notice it. The best part is I don't have to struggle with giving her pills or putting a cream in her ears.-
Happy Lily!

My cat currently takes a 5mg chewable tablet of methimazole 2x day. Would it be best for me to order the 5 mg compounded suspension or the 10 mg suspension? Also, sometimes, my vet advises me to vary the dosage I give my cat per day (sometimes up, sometimes down) based upon her blood tests. Would I have flexibility to do that with a compounded suspension? Thanks.?
-
Compounded methimazole suspension comes in a concentration of 5 mg per mL. This would require you to give a 1 mL dose. The 10 mg per mL concentration you will give ½ mL which may make it easier for your cat to consume the entire dose. A liquid dosage form allows for dosing adjustments. Due to the beyond-use date of this medication orders are limited to an 80 day supply. We always recommend consulting with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate strength and dose for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is your solution clear or white and cloudy??
-
Suspensions by definition are cloudy when shaken prior to dosing the medication. This oil-based suspension helps mask the flavor as well as gives the medication an extended beyond use date compared to a water-based solution making it more convenient for our pet owners. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My cat needs 10 mg transdermal gel in the morning and 7.5 mg in the evening. How much liquid would I need per day, and what is the cost of 2 weeks worth??
-
The suspension are priced at specific quantities. You would need the 10mg/ml in the 30ml bottle, to give you a 17 day supply. The price on that is $36.99. Please contact customer service if you have any other questions. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I have been told that Methimazole has a very bitter taste, which is one of the reasons the pill form is so hard to give. I don't want to go to the flavors because cats are fickle. I need to know if the unflavored is also bitter or does it actually have no taste as indicated?
-
Methimazole does have a bitter taste. Cats can experience nausea, vomiting or anorexia due to the bitter taste of this medication. Unflavored means there is no flavoring added. It does not mean that the flavor or bitterness of the medication is removed. Methimazole suspensions for animals can be unflavored (with no flavor added) or flavored with chicken, fish/tuna, or beef flavoring. Please consult your veterinarian if these options are of interest to you for the treatment of your cat's hyperthyroidism. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I have a prescription for "Methimazole compounded to deliver 2.5 MG transdermally twice daily". I can't seem to find that product here. Do you carry it, and how much is a 30 day supply??
-
Jeanette, We do have that. You would either want to get the 2.5mg/0.1mL syringe or the 5mg/.01mL syringe. Each syringe is $7.99 and you would need 6 syringes of the 2.5mg strength or 3 syringes of the 5mg strength for a 30 day supply. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My cat has been taking 5mg twice a day in pill form. Can I put the liquid dose in food - or must it be orally??
-
Giving your cat the 5mg dose in pill form is the best way to ensure that the cat receives the full dose and therapeutic benefit of methimazole. The liquid suspension may offer a more convenient means of dosing for owners unable to give a solid dosage form. If the liquid dose is not administered directly by mouth, there is the risk that the pet will not receive all of the medication. If the pet does not eat all of the food or if some of the liquid is not consumed, there will be inconsistent dosing resulting in the potential of underdosing your pet. If possible, we recommend administering medication by mouth. Thank you, VetRxDirect
