Product is too hard
From VirginiaComments about Ocu-GLOThe product was too hard! My dog took the gel capsules just fine but this product was too hard for her even when I broke it into for her. Since I did not know this until I opened it, I do not have an option to return it. Even after I cut the product in quarters, my small dog could not chew the pieces. I don't know what I can do with them now. A lot of money gone. -

Q & A

Choice seems to be gel tab or snip cap. I am familiar with a gel tab. Please describe for me what a snip cap is. Which of the two would be easiest to get a dog to take??
-
The snip cap is a gel cap with a little tab on the end that you cut off so you can pour the contents of the cap onto food. That is pretty messy so if you are able to get your pet to take the gel caps, that would probably be easier. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is there any contraindication to using Ocu-Glo and Previcox for a 14 year old Shih Tzu who's been diagnosed with PRA, uveitis, and cataracts and most recently canine osteoarthritis??
-
Ocu-Glo contains antioxidants to support the nutritional needs of canine eyes. The manufacturer states that this product is safe to take with all of your dog's health conditions. There are no known drug interactions with Ocu-Glo. Previcox (firocoxib) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to control pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. There is no information indicating this drug will interfere with your dog's eye conditions. Previcox should not be taken with other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or corticosteroids, prednisone for example. There are no other known drug interactions with previcox, but always talk with your veterinarian before starting new medications in your dog.. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My min schnauzer has been diagnosed with sards. She has limited sight & the vet told me about ocuglo & said it wouldn't hurt to try them. My dog weighs 16 lbs, what size pill should I get her??
-
You could get either size. The medium/large size is actually for dogs 11 pounds and over but the size of the capsule is about twice the size of the small dog capsules, so if your pet has a hard time taking pills, that may be something to consider. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My dog doesnt do pills very well. Is there eye drops or can I sprikle it in food??
-
Unfortunately, there are no eye drops at this time but you can sprinkle the capsules over food. It is messy however so you do need to be careful doing that. It also can stain the pets fur around their mouth as well. You could try to mix it in the food and it might not stain as bad otherwise the manufacturer might have some other tips you could try. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My dog's fur is developing an orange tinge. (He appears to be developing alopecia in addition to retinal degeneration). Could the orange of OCU-GLO possibly be affecting the color of his fur??
-
The orange color in Ocu-Glo comes from the ingredient Lycopene, which is obtained from tomatoes. Ocu-Glo Gelcaps have the potential to stain carpet, furniture, and fur if broken open. When administering this supplement it is recommended that the dog does not chew the gelcaps but instead swallows it whole, preventing the contents from spilling. The manufacturer does not have any reports of this supplement changing the coat color. We recommend contacting your veterinarian for any concerns you may have while your pet is taking Ocu-Glo.

Can the pill be squeezed in a capsule and then given to my dog...She refuses to eat when I squeezed the capsule in her food. My husband said, " why can't we put it in a capsule and wrap meat around it.." She can't smell it in a capsule. ?
-
Ocu-GLO capsules can be hidden in other treats or foods your dog finds tasty or the capsules can be punctured and the contents squeezed on to your dog's food. If you decide to puncture the capsules, please be careful as the contents will stain fabrics and fur.

My 10 month coton de tulear has just been diagnosed with retinal atrophy. The pill is too big for her to swallow. Any hints? If I empty the capsule in her food, how do I remove the stains from her white coat? How should the capsules be stored??
-
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to remove the stains from her coat. We have smaller capsules for small dogs that you could try or mixing the contents of the capsule up with the food. We suggest using a wet cloth or trying to shampoo your pets fur to try to get rid of the stains, otherwise try contacting the manufacturer to see if they have any other suggestions of what you could try. The manufacturer is Ocu-Glo and their phone number is 1-800-721-1310. Thank you, VetRxDirect
