What is Porus One for Cats by Dechra?
- Porus One is used to support kidney health in your cat.
- Porus One binds protein digestion byproducts in the intestines where they are excreted in the feces.
Why is Porus One Used for Cats?
- After protein is metabolized, the uremic toxin precursors indole and p-cresol are produced and normally excreted by the kidneys.
- Porus One contains a selective carbon-based adsorber that binds these products in the gut.
- This binding process helps prevent the byproducts from being converted into uremic toxins, which supports kidney health.
What else should I know about Porus One?
- Porus one is composed of tiny, black spheres that are perforated by many pores. These pores are so tiny that only very small molecules, such as uremic toxins, can enter the sphere.
- Particles such as vitamins and enzymes are too large to enter the pores. Therefore, these particles do not get absorbed by Porus One.
- Porus One is suitable for cats of all ages.
- Porus One is tasteless and odorless and can be easily administered at mealtime.
- It is normal for a thin layer of Porus One to remain inside the packet.
- Porus One should be stored at room temperature.
- Opened packets are to be used immediately.
What problems could my cat have with Porus One?
- If your animal’s condition worsens or does not improve, stop product administration and consult your veterinarian.
- Fresh water should always be available to your cat.
How do you use Porus One?
- Under the direction of a veterinarian, administer one packet (500 mg) daily at mealtime per cat.
- If your cat takes oral medications, administer Porus One two hours after administering those medications.
What is in Porus One?
- Porus One contains Renaltec, a selective carbon-based adsorber of protein byproducts in the gut.
Will I get what I see in the picture?
- Porus One is a brand name. You will receive the exact brand that you request.
Is it important for my cat to finish all of the Porus One?
- Cats may use this product for different lengths of time. Please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions.
Who makes Porus One?
- Porus One is made by the manufacturer Dechra.

Proven Effective
We have male cat that is just about 14 years old. He's lived a great life with very little health issues. A few months ago, we brought him in for routine yearly check and decided to do bloodwork as well since he is aging, losing a bit of weight and we could see noticeably slowing down. The results came back, and like many cats his age had indicators of signs of a deteriorating kidney function. We spoke with our vet and agreed to do a combination (KD \ Renal care) food and holistic approach to help slow down the progression. As most cat guardians know you don't reverse kidney failure, you only do your best to slow it down as much as possible. It has been a few months since being on the diet and Porus One. He's put a bit of the weight back on his energy is back to when he was younger. He has taken this with no issue in the morning with breakfast. Highly recommend for anyone looking to not just take medication. We'll continue to give as long as he accepts this with food. We are sure this helped give our beloved "big fuzzy guy" much relief!! I certainly recommend to any who does research, speaks with vet and confirms this is a worthwhile approach.

Very Hopeful
My senior girl, Bella, has chronic kidney disease. After 4 years at early stage, she's beginning to creep into Stage 2 of CKD. Porous One is often mentioned in the Feline Chronic Kidney Disease FB group and many of the cat parents say their kitties improve after use. Bella has only been on the Porous One for less than a week but I'm noticing a shift in her. She's becoming more active again and her grooming routine has picked once again. I'm grateful this product is available.

This medication is easy to give to my cats.
From UndisclosedComments about Porus One (renaltec) 30 Packets (500mg Each)I have 17 years and 16 years old cats and both cats have kidney disease and this was recommended by my cat's vet. I just started to give to them and it seems like they are tolerating pretty well. The main reason for trying this product is to help lower BUN level. Hopefully this product will help them. -

So grateful to have found this medication
From UndisclosedComments about Porus One (renaltec) 30 Packets (500mg Each)My cat's vet had prescribed this medication for him to take twice a day for the rest of his life and each box was over $100 at the vet.(he needs 2 a month) I, of course, would have paid it for him, even if it made me struggle every month. I did some research and found the exact medication here for less than half the price and I couldn't be more grateful for it. My kitty means the world to me and he will have a long, healthy life and I'm so thankful.-

This medication has helped my pet
From UndisclosedComments about Porus One (renaltec) 30 Packets (500mg Each)A friend recommend this product after my cat was diagnosed with kidney failure. I started adding this to his food and a month later I was told his phosphorus levels had stabilized and that he'd hopefully be around a little longer then the original 3 months I was told at his previous diagnosis. I know this product is helping him feel his best given his situation.-
Happy boy

Hope!
From UndisclosedComments about Porus One (renaltec) 30 Packets (500mg Each)One of my cats, 8 years old, has Stage 4 Feline CKD. Porus One was recommended by a number of people on the Feline CKD Facebook page as having helped their cat, so with my vet's ok we are trying it. Stripey will not have bloodwork for two months so we will not know until then if it is helping her kidneys. Fingers crossed!-

So far so good...
From UndisclosedComments about Porus One (renaltec) 30 Packets (500mg Each)This is only the 2nd month my cat has been on Porus One, but she seems to be doing really good on it so far. Her sister was also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease before her, but from the time she got diagnosed it progressed faster than I ever thought possible (was supposed recheck blood work in 6 months... by month #2 she was listless, no appetite, etc. Took her to the vet & he said she was already at the end, so I had to euthanize her). My vet said possibly her sister could be similar so he told me he had heard really good things about Porus One & to try it. Just to be safe I had her BW rechecked a 2nd time another month later & her numbers hardly fluctuated. I know it could be that maybe the disease didn't hit her as hard or maybe it could be the meds, but I'd like to be hopeful & say that the meds is what's helping her.-

How quickly will I start to see improvments in symptoms? Will this interfere with nutrient absorption from the food? Can I mix into all meals or just one??
-
The manufacturer recommends adding the contents of one packet to food and giving it to your pet once daily. Giving one packet with each meal is also safe since it does not get absorbed, but it is not necessary to give a packet with each meal. Porus One is made up of small black spheres that have tiny, molecular-sized pores. The size of the pores allow only very small molecules, such as protein digestion byproducts to pass through and bind to the spheres. Nutrients like vitamins are too large to get through the pores. Because of this binding, the byproducts cannot be converted into uremic toxins, which require the kidneys for excretion. As a result, the binding of these byproducts with Porus One supports kidney health. Cats may respond differently to Porus One. During the initial study, cats given Porus One Renaltec appeared to have a decrease in uremic toxins most effectively at 28 days. If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding this product, please contact your veterinarian.

I see you recommend putting one packet in one meal. What do you recommend for dosage if my cat likes several small meals daily? Should I mix a packet in what she'd likely eat in a day and put aside what she doesn't eat for later meals??
-
According to the manufacturer’s directions for use, administer one packet (500 mg) daily at mealtime under the direction of a veterinarian. If your cat takes oral medications, administer Porus One two hours after administering those medications. The manufacturer states that opened packets are to be used immediately and should not be stored.

I'm not a vet but I did look at a lot of published academic research papers on the active ingredient before giving us to my cat. From what I read, Renaltec is this company's name for carbon60 fullerene. Fullerene can be phototoxic and degrade in the presence of light fairly quickly so I personally discard any food with porus one after 1 hour. I only give one packet a day, even though my cat eats six times, because the box does have an overdose warning and recommends one packet.

How do you get around the gritty texture? Any tips? I'd finally found a kidney diet food my Stage 3 girl loved, added this to a little bit of water before mixing it into the food, and now she won't touch her food even without Porus One in it! Please help :( Same happened when I then tried it on her dry food.?

Each packet of Porus One contains Renaltec which is a selective carbon-based absorber of protein byproducts. It is composed of tiny, black homogenous spheres. Each sphere has a smooth surface and is perforated by numerous pores leading to a branched channel system similar to the bronchi. This smooth surface assures an unimpeded passage through the GI tract, neither adhering to the mucosa nor accumulating in the intestine. Per the manufacturer, this product was designed to be given once daily with a meal. They only recommend administering the supplement with food being that other strategies, like a syringe, can carry the risk of aspiration or ineffective delivery of the medication. You must consult with your vet before starting this supplement. Also, it is recommended you speak with your veterinarian before any changes in the way you give Porus One to your cat.
