Miracle Product
I have 2 cats with renal failure, they get week and wobbly in their back legs, and lose one of them loses her appetite at times. You can see dramatic improvement all of the symptoms within 24 hours, especially the appetite. If the wobbling in the back legs has been going on for a long time, then it'll take a week or so to really get to work. The potassium powder is the easiest for me. No matter how finicky my animals are the powder seems to have just about no taste and they don't mind it a bit. My cats don't go for the gels and pastes out there. I would also recommend the Liqui Tinic for anemic animals, whether your vet prescribes it or not, it's a great Iron, B complex, and vitamin supplement.
PetRxDirect is the ONLY pet online pharmacy I'll ever use again. This review is about a year tardy, from my first time ordering. They are so fast with the orders, and it's like they give personal care to each order. I feel like I'm dealing with a family owned small business (maybe it is I don't know) vs a big online pharmacy. Whether that be some free kitty treats to a personal response to my email requesting a change to my order before it was shipped.

Too early to tell. Happy just had a renal panel and the Vet recommended this. The problem is I was already giving it to him for two weeks. Maybe it just needs more time. to take effect.

Renal K+ Gel - It Works!
From Houston, TXComments about Renal K+ (potassium gluconate)My cat suddenly fell from a chair, and could not move his back legs. After a minute he was OK.I thought it was an accident, that maybe he was getting off the chair and a nail got stuck or maybe his brother kicked him off the chair. However, 10 days later, he started vomiting badly, not eating, and could not walk. The reason: very low potassium. The vet prescribed 2/3 tsp twice a day. But since the situation was pretty bad, the vet told me that if I did not see a change during the night (one dose), bring him in to get potassium in the office (a ~10-hour procedure). After 2/3 tsp he was another cat!! So he is getting the treatment at home. By the 3rd day, he was about 80& back to normal. This thing is awesome! Issue: he hates to take it with a syringe or on the top of his palate. It was a huge fight. But the vet told me that cats like its flavor... so I decided to put it in his food and put some crashed treats on top. Holy solution! He eats his daily dosage with his food (and a pinch of treats on top). Low potassium has so many symptoms! Luckily I have a good, experienced, and caring vet so she pointed to the right solution. And it was so easy to fix! -
Cat does not like, but it works
From Las Vegas, NVComments about Renal K+ (potassium gluconate)Some cats love the taste, some hate it. Mine hates it! Per the vet's directions I use 1/2 teaspoon twice per day. I put it on my finger, apply to the roof of her mouth, and immediately follow with a treat. Using this method she allows me to do it because she knows a treat is coming. -

My cat is on Tumil K gel (1/2 tsp. twice a day). Would this product be the equivalent? And at the same dosage??
-
The dosage directions on Tumil-K gel state that each 2.34gm (½ teaspoon) contains 2mEq (468mg) of potassium gluconate in a palatable base. Dosing directions on Renal K+ state that each 2.5ml (½ teaspoon) contains 2mEq of potassium (as potassium gluconate) in a palatable base. For every 468mg of potassium gluconate, there is 2mEq of potassium. Both of these products are intended to provide 2mEq of potassium for each ½ teaspoon. Recommended dosing for each product is to give ½ teaspoon per 10 lbs (4.5kg) body weight twice daily. Speak with your veterinarian to determine if changing from Tumil K gel to Renal K gel would be recommended. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Does the powder have a taste to it? I would feel more confident in the dosing if I could use the powder and put it in her food. She is doing very well with the gel, but she doesn't like it and I have to give her special food so she will eat it.?

Regina, The manufacturer of Renal K states the powder dosage form is flavored with fish and poultry. The gel dosage form contains 2 mEq of potassium per 2.5ml (½ teaspoon). The powder dosage form comes with a scoop which will measure out 2.2 mEq of potassium per scoopful. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet prescribes this to us for our cat. It's expensive and a long drive. Could they be doing something special to his Rx?Otherwise, I can buy it online. How do I find out?Thank you!?

Rachel, Renal K+ is an over-the-counter pet med and is available to purchase online without prescription authorization from your pet's veterinarian. It is always important to consult with your pet's veterinarian before starting your pet on any prescription or OTC drug. It would also be important to ask your pet's veterinarian if they have any special instructions when giving Renal K+. Thank you, VetRxDirect
