From UndisclosedComments about Rimadyl (carprofen) Chewable TabletsVet Rx is the only online pharmacy my vet clinic works with. Approved source of medication. -
I would buy product again.
From UndisclosedComments about Rimadyl (carprofen) Chewable TabletsDog had fallen down last couple steps - old house with landing/stairs. Injured left-rear leg. Dog also had genetic patella disorder - medication acts as a pain/reliever. Am taking pet back out for walks to rebuild strength in the hindquarter; eg. make thru a couple days /pain free', then a couple more days 'pain free', combine with moderate exercise which is increased over time - dog seems to be much better. Needs assistance going up steps or getting onto a sofa/Chair, but is fine now going on walks and down steps - be it a flight or just out the back deck. 15 1/2 yr. old cairn terrier -
I would buy this product again

Tasty and effective
From undisclosedComments about Rimadyl (carprofen) Chewable TabletsGreat tabs. My dog has no problem taking these. The ones I got from the vet apparently didn't taste very good and my dog would not readily take them. These are easy to give and don't upset his stomach. -

Q & A
-
Are they an over the counter drug that I can buy that will help with pain and swelling in my Bulldog similar to caroprfen?
-
Some traditional over-the-counter pain medications such as Tylenol may be used in dogs, but only under the direction and guidance of a veterinarian. It is not recommended to give any over-the-counter medications to your dog without first consulting with your veterinarian as they have the most updated health history of your dog and will be able to better recommend a dose.

Is this product the same as Tramadol 50mg.. If not what is.?
-
Tramadol is an opioid, narcotic-like pain reliever that is used in the management of moderate to severe pain; such as post-surgical pain and severe arthritis. Tramadol is a human-labeled drug that is classified as a controlled substance due to it's potential for abuse. Rimadyl contains carprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), commonly used in the treatment of osteoarthritis and postoperative pain in dogs. Carprofen differs from tramadol because it is a non-narcotic medication that treats pain by reducing inflammation. VetRxDirect does not dispense tramadol but you should be able to get a tramadol prescription dispensed at your local pharmacy. Please consult with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate pain-relieving medication for your pet.

What are the side effects?
-
Mich, The most common side effects reported with Rimadyl in dogs are vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Very rarely, Rimadyl can cause stomach ulcers and problems with liver function. Your veterinarian may wish to perform liver tests if your pet is on the medication longer than a few weeks. If you feel your pet is experiencing side effects from this medication, it would be important to discuss with your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Do I need a prescription from the Vet to order these.?
-
Yes, carprofen, the active ingredient in Rimadyl, does require a prescription from a licensed United States veterinarian. Once an order is placed, we can send a fax to your veterinary clinic requesting approval for the prescription which the clinic can fax back, or your pet's veterinarian may choose to issue you a written prescription, which you can then mail to us. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I have heard of a generic carprofen chewable called Carodyl. Do you know anything about this or have any plans to carry it??
-
Silvana, It appears Carodyl is an international generic carprofen product and not available in the U.S. We expect to carry a FDA approved chewable carprofen generic soon. We will send out a marketing e-mail when this product is available, so make sure to sign up for our newsletter. Thank you, VetRxDirect
