What problems could my dog or cat have with Ursodiol?
- One common, but not usually serious, side effect is diarrhea.
How do you use Ursodiol?

- Ursodeoxycholic Acid dissolves cholesterol, prevents cholesterol absorption in the intestines, and prevents the production of cholesterol in the liver.
Will I get what I see in the picture?
- Ursodiol is sold as an FDA approved generic drug. Brand may vary from order to order and variation to variation. We are unable to guarantee which brand will be available at the time of order shipment.

Ursodiol is expensive
From Spring, TXComments about Ursodiol (Generic)Our local veterinarian prescribed Ursodiol to our 14 year-old Brittany. Ursodiol is expensive it through our local vet. After searching for better pricing on the internet I found VetRxDirect. 250mg of Ursodiol is 1/3 of the veterinarian pricing and it is the same medication. -
Great price and service
From SacramentoComments about Ursodiol (Generic)My 12 yo Shephard mix has cushings. She is probeing to urinary tract infections and liver sludge. This is recommended by our vet to help clean her liver. You can actually tell she feels better after taking this for a few days. -
This medicine is a life-saver
From Raleigh, NC, USAComments about Ursodiol (Generic)When my vet called to let me know that they were no longer going to carry Ursodial because, for some unknown reason, the drug manufacturer decided to jack the price up astronomically, I scrambled to find someone who would dispense this drug at a reasonable price. I found my answer at VetRX Direct. I have two dogs that take this medicine because they have chronic, acute pancreatitis. This medicine helps their spleen or gall bladder (can't remember which) from becoming enlarged and irritating the pancreas. Anyway, it has worked like a charm for over 3 years. Thank God. I have been very pleased with the cost and service from VetRX. So far, I have ordered twice from them and I plan on ordering some probiotics that are considerably cheaper through VetRX than with my local vet. -

My dog gets a half tablet a day. Is there a problem if I split the tablets days ahead of giving them??

Should this be crushed before it is given to my dog? My Vet did not say to crush it!?
-
Yes, it is okay to cut or crush ursodiol tablets. However, the tablets have an outer coating to mask the bitter taste of the medication. In order to avoid the bitter taste, it is best to have swallowed whole.

Dog is 15 lbs I don't have access to a refridgerator. Can this be made for my dog and stored at room temperature or in a cup of ice? If so how long will it be stable??
-
Ursodiol is a prescription medication available as tablets and capsules. Neither of these products need to be refrigerated. Tablets and capsules are good until the expiration date on the bottle. Your vet will be able to determine if this is the most appropriate medication for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What could possibly be in these capsules that could make it cost $5.49 PER capsule? I had a prescription filled in August @ $1.10 per capsule. Unfortunately, this puts me (& probably a LOT of other folks) out of being able to afford it for my PET.?
-
Unfortunately, there is a shortage of materials which makes it difficult for us to get this medication in stock. Because of this, the price for us to acquire it has gone up so the price for the customer to buy it has also gone up. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you, VetRxDirect

my dog is on 1.5 ml of ursodial...what would the mg be if I purchased a tablet...plus can I order 300mg and cut it in half if the dosage is 150 mg.?
-
It is unclear what concentration (grams per milliliter) and dose of ursodiol you are using just by the milliliter given. You would purchase an equal amount of capsule or tablet as the dose that the veterinarian prescribed. If the dose is 150 milligrams we do not carry 150 milligrams tablets or 300 milligrams tablets. We carry tablets in 250 milligrams only. We do compound 150 milligrams capsules but the capsules cannot be portioned into halves therefore you would be unable to half the 300 milligram capsules. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can you take femotadine with this medication.?
-
Daphne, This is a great question, and it’s always good to check with your pharmacist about any drug interactions. Ursodiol can be taken with famotidine, without affecting how well it works in your pet. However, the use of famotidine is cautioned in pets with liver disease. As ursodiol can be used for pets who have chronic liver disease, it would be best to consult your pet;s veterinarian before giving famotidine if your pet has liver disease. Thank you, VetRxDirect
