Supposed to Help with UTI
Well they asked for a review, which is hard to do. But 2-year-old Border Collie has had regular UTIs and this is supposed help move the PH to a less hospitable environment. Seeing as our water is Basic I'm hoping this help. Will update in 3 months, only 1 month in to treatment.

From UndisclosedComments about DL-Methionine 200mg Tablet, 150ctThe medication is helping my Ellie girl -
Cost efficient
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineThis product is easily crushed and added to our cats food. We used to buy a similar product from another manufacturer for about 3 times the cost- the only difference was it was flavored. There's no need to pay for that extra flavoring; hidden in their food the cats just eat this up. -
Yes
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineI use this product to prevent bladder stones from forming that was suggested by my vet sometime back. I have had good results so far. -
I will continue to buy this product.
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineGreat product. Smokey Joe takes DL Methionine so he does not build up crystals in his urine. This is an easy solution without having to buy expensive dog food. -
This is a great medication!
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineMy 12 year old cat has needed medication for crystals forming in her urine causing pain and sometimes bleeding during urination since she was 18 months old. My cats only vet prescribed Methio-Form. When I relocated to another state, I continued with the Methioform. Then last month, numerous online pet pharmacies were out of stock for Methio-Form. I saw on one pharmacy site that there is an alternative medication in same dosage that unlike the Methio-Form does not require a prescription. I contacted my veterinarian. She did research and let me know that DL-Methionine is an excellent substitute for Methio-Form. I use one and half tablets dose twice a day in my cat's food. My cat is very fussy about eating food with medication mixed into it, but the DL-Methionine tablets are much smaller, crush into powder more easily and the powder is less dense so that my cat doesn't realize that it is mixed into her wet and dry food twice a day. My cat is doing very well with DL-Methionine and her symptons of her stress related illness have not surfaced at all. This alternative is proving to be a better medication and keeping my girl healthy. I have gone to auto shipping with this product so that I will not run out of it. -
Great price!
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineThis product works great to avoid struvite crystals for my English bulldog. The price is also fantastic and significantly lower than my vet's office. The company is also cute. They sent a cookie for my dog which she could actually eat as she is allergic to everything. By the way she loved her cookie treat and wanted more! -
I always want to have these on hand.
From Bridgeport, ctComments about DL-Methioninecat is prone to urinary blockages (bladder and kidney stones) give this product on a daily basis crushed into wet food to maintain ph in urine. I check the urine several times a week with ph test strips, if normal, I give 1 pill daily to maintain reading, if it goes to a 7 I give 2 pills daily(as per veterinarian recommendation) so ph does not go higher. So far, this medication has been working well with no negative side effects. However, my cat is also on both prescription wet and dry food for life. -
I always want to have these on hand.
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineI use this product to keep my male 3 1/2 year old cat's (Rocky) ph urine level within normal range (6.0-6.5). My cat has had 2 urinary blockages within the past year (bladder and kidney stones) a nightmare! After the last blockage emergency, he had a ph of 8. My veterinarian said he did not know how this cat would survive unless the ph was lowered. Told me to give a 200 mg. tablet morning and night every day. Since it crushes easily, I mix it into his (wet food) or into a cat appetizer pouch with some type of broth. It took a month or so of this regimen, but the ph went down. I check the urine every few days with ph test strips and on the vet's advice, if it goes to a reading of 7, I give 2 tablets daily, when it is 6-0 to 6.5 I only give one tablet daily to maintain ph. In addition to this medication, however, I still have rocky on a prescription diet, dry and wet food for life. Hope this review helps anyone who has a cat with this terrible problem, and if they start showing signs of a blockage and don't pee for long periods of time, please get them to a vet asap. They can die if they don't pee for 3 days! -
Great product at a great price!
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineI've been using this product for years now to prevent cystitis in my adopted male cat. One 500mg tablet per day crushed up and mixed with his wet food, and he's had no problems with cystitis acting up since! Price is also much, much lower than buying from a vet's office! -
Works as advertisef
From UndisclosedComments about DL-MethionineThese pills don't cut in half easily . That would making giving half's to my dog much easier

You state that dl-methionine doesn't require a script. On another pet med website, it says a script IS needed. Why the difference??
-
The brand of DL-methionine that we currently sell is VET Pharmaceuticals, which is specifically sold as a nutritional supplement in dogs and cats. Nutritional supplements do not require a prescription from a veterinarian. However, there are more concentrated forms of DL-methionine that require a prescription, such as Methio-Form, which we do not carry. The decision to require a prescription is dictated by each company that produces DL-methionine. This may be the reason why you see other pharmacies requiring a prescription from a veterinarian. Please consult with your veterinarian to determine if your pet requires prescription-only DL-methionine or DL-methionine supplement. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.

You stated in an answer regarding dosing that the dose for dogs is 1/2 tab per 10# once to twice per day for both the 200 mg and the 500 mg tabs. That doesn't make sense. The 200mg tab would be a dose of 100-200 mg daily while the dose for 500mg tab world be 250-500 mg daily. That is a large difference. Please clarify?

DL-Methionine 500mg tablets: Adult cats: 1 tablet per 10 pounds 1 or 2 times daily. Dogs: 1/2 tablet per 10 pounds 1 or 2 times daily. DL-Methionine 200mg tablets: Adult cats: 1 tablet per 10 pounds 3 or 4 times daily. Dogs: 1 tablet per 10 pounds 1 or 2 times daily. DL-Methionine should be given with food, and dosage should be adjusted to maintain urinary pH consistently below 6.6. DL-Methionine is not intended for use in kittens. Thank you!

Customers review the product as having a “treat” like smell. It can also be crushed and added to your dog’s food if it is not palatable to your dog as a treat.

My dog won't go near this product and i tried everything. Soft food, Liver worst, cheese, Apple Sauce and other cold cuts that a dog is allowed and she doesn't go near it. She wouldn't go near her soft food for a few days in fear that it was in there.

Hi, could I ask a question about the dosage of 500mg. It states on the package insert that cats should have 1 tablet one or two times a day, but dogs get 1/2 a tablet one or two times a day. That seems odd to me as a cat is a lot smaller that some dogs. It this actually correct. Thank you?
-
According to the package label, cats should receive one tablet per 10 lb of weight once or twice daily with food, and dogs should receive one-half tablet per 10 lb of weight once or twice daily with food. Please contact your veterinarian to determine the best dose for your cat or dog.
