From undisclosedComments about EpakitinMy beautiful cat Kira is now, God Bless, 25 yrs. old & doing wonderfully well. About a year ago she had begun early stages of kidney disease & is on special food & medication. Her vet suggested Epakitin & Kira has been on it 2x a day for just over a year. I take her to to her vet monthly & thank God she is holding her own. Thank you, Stefanie -

From undisclosedComments about EpakitinThis was added on this past month along with the Azodyl. It has made a huge difference in our 4 1/2 Miniature Schnauzer. She was Diagnosed with Early Stage Renal Failure. She hated all renal food, wet or dry, so I cook daily for Her and this really helps along with Azodyl to Eliminate all the bad stuff their Kidneys can't do. Also, because I cook for Her, this medicine (Powder) is Wonderful. Rylee weighs 23lbs. Do She gets to spoonfuls at lunchtime and 2 spoonfuls at dinner time daily. -

From Somewhere, USAComments about EpakitinThis product is not good at all for my cat. The 2 times I tried giving it to my cat: My cat became very constipated Stool had no smell to it at all. Stool was very hard and in small balls. - Hard like rocks. Maybe 2 days after I gave this product to my cat, the stool became soft again and actually smelled like stool. -
This is a great product I highly recommend it!
From Hartsdale, New YorkComments about EpakitinThe veterinarian suggested it to mix in my cat's food to help break down the proteins in the food to help maintain his kidney function. -

My cat has CKD3 and is approximately 5 kg. So would the correct dose be 1 g twice a day with his meals or is it 1 g over the course of the day with his meals??
-
The manufacturer's general suggested use is to give 1 gram per 5 kg of body weight by mouth in the morning and the evening. This would be 1 gram in the morning and 1 gram in the evening for a 5 kg (11 pound) cat. One level scoopful (scoop is provided) contains 1 gram of Epakitin. We contacted the manufacturer about your cat’s CDK3 and weight. They still felt confident that the suggested twice daily dosing of 1 gram in the morning and evening was appropriate. Please consult your veterinarian regarding any further questions or concerns regarding this medication in your cat.

My cat is in renal failure and eats small meals throughout the day every 3 or 4 hours. How would I give the doses in this case. Just the 1st one in morning and last one at night? Because he eats about 5 times a day. Or can one dose be spilt up and given over a few meals? If I feed him twice a day he doesn't eat enough. He eats about 1/2 tablespoon at a time. Thank you!?
-
Epakitin is a phosphate binder that supports normal function and health of the kidneys in cats. Although it is recommended to give 1 gram/5 kg of body weight by mouth in the morning and evening, the manufacturer actually recommends splitting the total daily dosage over all meals given as there is phosphate in everything they eat. If you have any additional questions, please speak with your veterinarian to determine the best way to administer this product to your cat.

Our 15lb Rat-Chi is in Stage 3 or 4 of renal failure. He's not eating his usual soft food right now...only small chunks of chicken or beef. The powder obviously wont stick to the meat. What are some ways to give him his 1.5 (tiny) teaspoon amount twice a day? (Dissolve in water? Milk? Other ideas?) Lastly, what does this taste like to the dog? Is it a bad taste or a good flavor to dogs? Thanks.?
-
The manufacturer recommends mixing the powder with the morning and evening meals, the dose may be mixed with water or milk, however, the entirety of mixture needs to be consumed with (or just prior to eating) the meals in order to provide the desired effect of binding dietary phosphorus. Epakitin is an unflavored powder, and does not have any specific flavor associated with it. You may consider speaking with your veterinarian to determine the best way to administer this product to your dog
